I'm in the market for a new lawnmower and all the reviews have red flags don't buy reviews. Any advice?

I was looking at a Husqvarna at Lowes for $499. This one:

But on Amazon and elsewhere it has a lot of bad reviews. I checked the Honda mowers and they also have bad reviews.

Pretty much ALL the lawnmowers have detailed reviews about why you should definitely NOT buy them. I need a push mower and I like the power of a 190cc engine. We have an average size yard, but sometimes I get lazy and let the grass grow to tall before mowing. (Mowing just once a week when the grass is growing at peek.)

I don't need a riding lawn mower. Our property is much too small for that.

Have you checked the Consumer Reports reviews? They are pretty objective in their assessments. You also need to realize all lawn mowers will have some bad reviews because there are always some people who want a perfect mower.

This sounds like appliances now, where all appliances are engineered to last only five to seven years. This is what happened to the auto industry when American cars were engineered to fall apart and Japanese cars were not. Now American cars last longer but they will never regain their world position.

You have to get to commercial grade equipment to find something that will last. The problem with a lawn mower lasting is that you then have to make repairs. It might be better to just buy a new mower than try to repair it. And all the mowers seem to be the same. At least what you can see. That said, we have been through the same process as you and always end up with Sears best. With all the problems Sears is having, this might not be the right thing to do. But at one time they were pretty smart with the appliances and mowers.

Lawnmowers are not interstellar spaceships, even though some of the modern models seem to think they are.

If you need a self-propelled model, expect it to have issues. The drive system, and how well it works, varies widely, but they all break. No reason for it really, but they do.

A push mower on the other hand should last for years if you change the oil once or twice a season. That's all it takes. Change the oil.

I have a 6hp Craftsman engine on a 22" push mulching mower, no side discharge. It is somewhere between 8 and 10 years old, I don't remember. It still starts on the first pull all summer long. After sitting for the winter, it takes 3 to get it going on the first use in the spring.

Husqvarna is a name brand, with warranty. Honda makes very good engines. Buying new gets you that warranty, and the ability to return it if it doesn't work. Use it if you have to!
