I seized my 1999 Miata 1.8 engine. Can I swap in a b20?

So I killed my engine. My question is can I swap in a b20 Honda engine. Those Miata engines are a bit pricey. A b20 is like $800 which is perfect. And if they can be swapped in what all will I need for it to be at Thank you

NO. A Honda engine IS NOT a direct swap for a Mazda.

Easier than a human head transplant and hard as a human head transplant. You need the Honda transmission and computer, engine and transmission mounts and all the other stuff that makes a Mazda into a Honda.

"Can"it? Yes.

Will it be a direct or easy swap? Not even close.

You can make anything work as long as you have tools, skills, and time but the only direct replacement engine is another Mazda engine like the one found in your Miata.

The 1.8 engine was used in a lot of other products (Mazda and Ford). The escort 1.8 engine for example just needs a few parts swapped to fit.
What you need is a "BP" Mazda engine and parts off of the Miata 1.8 for it to work Ignition for example (the Miata engine had no distributor some BP engines had them). Windage tray, oil pan (and oil pick up tube).
I'm pretty sure Miata.net has swap info there on the use of other Mazda 1.8 engines

Sure, but by the time you're done you will have spent quite a bit more than a rebuilt Miata engine will cost. If you can't afford it then sell the car for what you can get for it and start over. Life's tuff at 21, especially when you're a dumbass and don't stop when the oil light glows red.

B20 is a front wheel drive engine; The BP in your was originally intended to be a front drive engine (1991-1994 Mazda Protégé LX and 1991-1994 Ford Escort), but Mazda modified it to fit the rear drive configuration of the Miata which is why your coolant lines in and out of your engine are located different than most engines. Your has distributorless ignition because it's a later model BP. You can make a B20 fit with fabrication, but why? If you are looking for similar output, go with the B20Z; not the B20B. The BP was at 140 hp; the B20B is 126 hp. The B20Z however, has a 145hp. Keep in mind that Honda engines are interference engines; In all honesty, I would stick with a BP. It might cost more right now, but a Honda engine swap means ECU and possibly transmission might not to be swapped too if the bolt pattern is different. That leads to other things to consider, like driveshaft placement. Make sure to do your homework on this one.
