I want to put synthetic oil in my outboard motor?
I bought a small outboard motor from a friend a 5 horse, power Honda, I need to change the oil and want to use synthetic oil,(I plan to keep it for a while)has anyone used it in a outboard motor? I'm an occasional boater i'm looking for pro's and con I guess thanks
Yep, use any synthetic 10W30 you choose. However, once you start to use synthetic, don't switch back to regular multigrade. Do your oil change with the engine warm, I believe the capacity is about 3/4 of a liter. Change your oil every 80 hours or once per year, whichever comes first. You should also check and change the gearcase oil by the same schedule.
Not going between synthetic oil and dino oil is a myth - the new synthetic oils are completely compatible with dino oil - change back and forth as you see fit.
Thanks I do have 3/4 of a liter of synthetic oil, I also use it in the car (synthetic oil) thanks again
i was told that synethetic was devopleted for turbo air planes because regerlar oil wouldnt hold up
- Why do people get mad over the fact that their cars require full synthetic oil? I work as a mechanic and found some people do not like the fact 2010 and up toyotas and Hondas and almost all 2014 cars and European cars require full synthetic oil. A majority of the anger comes towards toyotas and Hondas. Despite me explaining the increased intervals, they still get angered at the fact. Is it just me or does less time doing oil changes that save you more money in the long run end up coming out cheaper despite the increased price and why would they be angry saving money?
- Is going from synthetic oil in my '03 HOnda Hybrid to regular oil bad? Over 100K miles, always used synthetic oil. Took the car to my mechanic to have brakes checked, and he thought the oil looked dirty so he drained it and put in regular oil. Now I'm concerned about my engine. Advice please? I do not know what kind of regular oil he put in.
- How long can a small outboard motor be submerged in fresh water before it's not salvageable? Over the weekend we recovered a HONDA outboard motor that fell off a fishing boat last September. It's since been power washed and the carburetor has been removed along with all internal water. Is it worth taking to a repair shop?
- If in the owners manual it says I should use 5W-20 motor oil, can I use 10W-40 motor oil instead? I have a 2009 Honda Fit. I just recently bought 10W-40 and when I got home to put oil in the manual said 5W-20. What's the difference? And is it okay if I still use the 10W-40?
