Is a vw beetle a good first car?

I'm 16 and I'm in the market for my first car. I've saved up for years and I have $3,200 to work with. I have always wanted a bug since I was little but heard they can be problematic. My parents want me to go with something like a Honda or Toyota but I can't get my mind off of a bug! I found a 2000 model, 1.8 turbocharged 4cyl with 123,000 miles on it for 2,400. I was wondering if they are a reliable first car.

VW Beetle. Not reliable. Sorry. Get the Honda Civic coupe. You'll love it.

It's not a good first car. VWs have a lot of quirks, including coolant that is incompatible with any almost other car coolant. In certain proportions even "universal" coolant can cause the coolant to gel, destroying the engine in minutes.

They can be problematic and the one you found will certainly will be. Parents are wise, follow their advice. Buying this beat down Beetle will be a big disappointment. Your parents do not like seeing their little girl disappointed.

VW's are awful cars, not to mention silly looking. I would rather walk.

The only reliable vehicle VW ever built was the original Beetle. The new Beetle is an unreliable piece of junk.

Depends what you are looking for though. If you want a girly car then sure its not that bad but realize these cars aren't perfect so even if you find one in good condition which I doubt with your budget, eventually something will go wrong and german cars are generally more expensive to fix due to part prices and the over engineered systems
