Is it a bad idea to buy a second hand Honda Camino DX 1980?
I'm 16 and I need a form of transport to get me to school and back and work and back but I have limited cash to spend on it. In the UK you can drive a moped at 16 as long as it doesn't go above 45km/h I believe the 1980 models of the Honda camino are perfect as I believe they are in the speed range but also don't look like your average chunky moped and you can get a decent used one for under £1000.
With safety and future potential repairs in mind is it a bad idea to buy a 1980's moped and are there any other alternatives?
Yes
37 years old and spares hard or impossible to buy - bad idea I say
Hi so the restrictions put on 16 years old is to try and keep you a live as that was a problem back in the 1960's. Too many died going to fast.
I used to have one of those, frighteningly slow, and a frame that rusted invisibly from the inside. Parts are easily available if you go Belgian and Dutch sites (which means a wait). But it was fun to ride in town, until you came to a hill.
Not the best. Alternative for that price is Mainland Chinese scooter with doubtful rep for parts availability and poor rep for lasting to short waranttee or a used European model like a Puch copy that is also likely to be abused, maybe only 20 years old. Honda will have shop manuals and parts available- may take some time to get parts- and will be a fair 'learn to wrench 'project. I ride 1980s vintage large and midsize- Goldwing is 1978- no real problem getting parts for Honda and Yamaha after a short wait for shipping on some bits and pieces. Depend a lot on shape of actual little Honda.
The bike is twice as old as you are.
I would keep looking there has got to be another bike out there for you.
- Would it be, a bad idea for me to try and fix a blown head gasket? Its for a honda. Stock d16 aftermarket rims and is 1500 with a blown head gasket. My dad is the best honda mechanic in my town. He would be guiding me through it. Also the car had 137k miles and good paint. How much would it be worth if it was fixed?
- Planning to buy a second hand bike? This is my first bike. Also i'm a short guy. 5 feet 2 inches. I have chosen some bikes. Please help me choose the good one $ Pulsar 135 ls $ Honda Stunner $Honda Twister $ Suzuki Slingshot Any other bikes in your suggestion. Less weight and short
- Looking for a second hand first bike? I'm currently thinking between the Yamaha DT 125R and Honda CG 125. I'm a heavy bloke but not really big, 19 stone and 5'11. The lower looking CG (for my weight), reliability, cost etc of the honda is appealing to me, as it needs to be cheap and bombproof, but the yamaha has more power to shift my weight to-from work, and is offroad, making me assume its better in the snow and with hills (i live in the area around barnsley, and will be travelling about an hour to work)
- Buying second hand motorbike? Buying a 2010 Honda fireblade with 11 000Km on the clock. Going to test drive it tomorrow and was wondering what to look for if the bike has been looked after and secondly when riding are their any signs that would tell if the bike has been hammered?
