Is this a busted piston ring in my 97 Honda Recon?

I think I have a busted piston ring on my 97 Honda Recon. It blows smoke but runs fine, I just got through changing the oil for the first time in a long time and it started it. I thought it was to much oil but it still does it but i haven't ran it that much. Is it a busted ring?

Get a compression tester, and install in spark plug hole. Disable ignition so it won't start, and crank engine 5 strokes. Good engine compression will be around 150-180 psig. What's yours? A lot lower? Now, remove tester, squirt about 1/4 cup motor oil in. Re-connect tester, and crank engine again. If compression markedly increases, rings are bad. (oil has temporarily sealed rings) If not, you have a bad intake or exhaust valve. Hope this points you in the right direction, Good Luck.
