Is this a great price for tranny service?
$69 from a Honda dealer.
•Inspect for leaks
• Drain and replace transmission fluid
• Test drive
That's a good price for a real drain & refill, rather than a machine flush… And especially reasonable at a dealer service dept. I don't know what kind of filter a Honda uses: if replaceable, it should be replaced… If permanent, cleaned.
Actually, kind of spendy for a basic transmission oil change.
IF they completely clean out the fluid from the torque convertor, the answer is yes, but most transmission ships don't do that and a simple drain and refill won't accomplish it. The proper way to do it is to pump clean ATF through the transmission after it has been drained, and to keep pumping until the fluid comes out clean. This requires a lot of ATF to do that level of flush and $69 probably won't cover it. I have a friend who has owned a shop for 35 years and he says that a simple drain and refill is a waste of money because the torque convertor doesn't get completely emptied of the old, dirty fluid. To give you an analogy, it's like pouring wine into a glass that had milk in it previously and wasn't washed first
Sure, the price is within range.
Hondas have a drain plug, removed with a 3/8 inch socket wrench, no socket, just the square drive. It will dump out about 2 1/2 quarts. You can buy import tranny fluid at almost any parts store for less than 1/2 that price. Drive it a few hundred miles and do it again. That will get more new fluid into the tranny.
Look at it yourself and you either see fluid stains or not. Drain and replace ATF…1/2 hour and 10 minutes of that is washing your hands. Some value though, if they change the transmission filter. $69 for having the car on the rack for 15 minutes and telling you there are problems you really don't have that scare you into thinking the car is about to blow up. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, however, there are a few years Honda gor straight-up lemon transmissions and changing fluid will NOT fix their problems. Lookit
Yes it is. At the Mitsubishi dealer the 4 quarts of ATF cost $28 and we got paid an hour labor at $85/hr.
Sounds reasonable
- Tranny Flush, 3 or 9 quarts? I called Honda today and told them my tranny fluid was brown. They recommended that I do a 3 quart drain and fill to see how my car reacts to the new fluid. My mechanic who works for Honda recommends that I do a 9 quart drain and fill because Honda Transmissions won't take it as bad as other cars will. I don't know what I should do because I feel like everyone just wants to make a quick buck off of me.
- My husband is great at auto repair? So he has built and rebuilt transmissions. On a Honda Toyota and Chevys and replaced engins as well. So don't you think he can do a heater core replacement. Or is this job in a league of its own.
- What kind of tranny do i need in my honda? My tranny is going to go out any day now. So I'm wondering what kind of tranny I'll need. I have an auto matic 95 Honda civic coupe 1.5L DX?
- What is a great reliable used car for under 6000? I had a Honda civic but now it's total loss due to accident. This car never gave me any problems, only thing I ever change was oil and tires. Now I'm looking for a different car. Too many people mock honda cars, and I don't understand because they are good looking, cheap and last a really long time. I'm into small light weight, great on gas cars. Anything really… Any suggestion is great, so I can get some ideas and do my research.
