Lawnmower won't stay running?

I have a Honda lawnmower that has been great over the past few years. I started it up this season but it won't stay running. I do know how to describe what's going on, so here is a link to a video that I made. Please help:

Try taking off the gas cap and see if it stays running. If it does, then the gas cap has a plugged up air inlet hole. Air has to enter the gas tank in order for gas to flow out. If that hole in the cap is plugged then you get exactly the problem that you have.

But if that isn't the problem, then you probably have a dirty carburetor.

Time to look at the instruction manual that came with it

My mower does that but it has older gas in it and will run after I start it several times. I'm guessing since you mentioned putting in new gas that any ethanol turned to water in your lines would have already run through.

Probably has stale gas in it that turned to gum you will have to remove carburetor and clean it or maybe governor isn't working right.

Look at the owner's manual and see if you can solve your issue. You can also have it inspected or repaired. Otherwise, it may be time to replace it.

It's probably a dirty carburetor due to old, stale gas. Dump the old gas and replace with fresh. Any old gas you have can safely put in your car's gas tank. It will be diluted enough by the gas already in the tank that it won't cause issues. Also, go to the auto parts store and ask for spray carburetor cleaner. The instructions for use are on the can but basically consists of spraying cleaner into the carb while the engine is running (or attempting to run). New gas and a few goes with the carb cleaner should get you back in business.
