Cheapest reliable car from the 80s-1993?
Looking at a antique auto anything pre 1993 in my state. I'm looking for a car to play around with on weekends use in the winter as a toy. I have a 40 year old honda bike i drive daily looking to have a fun reliable cheaper to maintain car. I'm looking at a 88 crown vic, oldsmobile regancy, buick century from the 80s era. I've seen beat up high mileage volvo 240s in the 1k-2k price range too
If you know how to handle a rear-wheel driven vehicle in the snow, then I'd toss my support behind an old 5th Avenue. They're absolute beasts and loaded with luxury.
Subaru.
An old Jeep Cherokee or an old Subaru outback. Just be careful, some cars get so rusted out that it's not worth your time. You really need to look for cars that have spent their life in dry, salt free conditions.
There's no way to predict the reliability of a 30 year old vehicle, especially if the vehicle is only theoretical.
No such thing
No car that old is going to be reliable by modern car standards. Even when new, they weren't reliable like modern cars.
If you only plan to "play" with it on weekends, you might find something that will suffice. But whatever you think you want to buy, get a mechanic to look it over first so that you'll know about any problems. Regardless, you'll end up having to spend money on it over time -- much more than your initial $1K cost.

- Can I swap a fi motor into an early 80s honda cb750? Looking to buy a 81 cb750 or around that time frame want to know if I could put a fuel injected motor in it without having to chop and weld alot of stuff, is it possible? Any idea what motors would work best?
- How do I know what kind of tires to get? The cheapest way? I have a Honda with185,000 miles on it. It needs new tores soon but i'm not sure which tires to buy. There are tires rated for 100k miles and some rated for less like 40 or 60k miles. Is it best to pay a little more for longer tread life or is it cheaper to go with cheaper tires initially but they have avshorter tread life. I plan to keep the car for a long time. But not sure how to make the decision on which is cheaper in the long run. Anybody got suggestions?
- I have a 1993 Honda Civic DX that smells like pot? I don't smoke pot, there's no part in vehicle, there's no stash, the smell is coming from the engine portion not the interior. My oil is perfectly fine, Michael it is perfectly fine, my hoses and belts are fine. I need help.
- 1993 Honda Civic Engine Won't Start? It won't start unless I turn the key into the "on" position and then switch it "off" several times. Then once I do that it starts up easy. Doesn't ride rough or anything when I get it started. Anyone got an idea of what could be wrong with it? *Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Wires, and Valve Cover Gasket/Grommets were just put in and it didn't solve the issue*
