DOT4 brake fluid for Motorcycle?

About to buy some DOT4 brake fluid to top up my Honda CBR. Can you use any DOT4 fluid to fill up a motorcycle? Just unsure as in the description of the below fluid it doesn't mention motorcycles just cars/vans.

Yes any DOT 4 from a sealed container

Yes, it will be fine. You can use it in both cars and motorcycles, aslong as it states DOT 4 on the brake fluid reservoir cap.

DOT 4 is higher temp capable than DOT 3 but is back compatible. The one to watch out for is the DOT 5- it is 'Silicone' fluid, not 'Glycol' fluid and it will be messy on seals- it was developed for long storage life, not hygroscopic, minimal temperature use as well as hot use-- was a military spec to start for vehicles that might be put in a reserve pool for months or years and needed to work when pulled out for emergencies.

Dot 4 is the recommended fluid for motorcycles

It says Universal so it will be fine.

  • What happens if I use a non-Honda brake fluid? I have a newer Honda that is low on brake fluid. Manual says I need to use Genuine Honda fluid which is way more expensive and only recommends using a non-Honda fluid equivalent in an emergency situation, only if it's new and sealed. So what could happen if I use a non-Honda fluid? Does it damage the system so I have to get it drained As soon as possible? Or is this just a scare tactic to sell more Honda products?
  • Need of a brake fluid - honda cars-? What is the purpose of brake oil/fluid in disc and drum brakes is brake fluid really need for disc brakes or are they only for drum brakes. how much quantity of brake fluid is usually need for a honda 4 door sedan cars
  • What kind of brake fluid? I have a 1983 Honda Nighthawk 550 that I've been working on and I'm new to the motorcycle scene. What kind of brake fluid would be okay to use?
  • Rear turn signal and brake lights do not work on my motorcycle. How to fix it? I have a 2005 Honda Shadow Spirit 750. I bought it late last fall and didn't realize until a week or so later that the rear lights do not work. The tailbrake stays on, but does not illuminate when the brake is pressed. The rearrunning lights and rear turning signal lights to do work either. Everything up front works. Anyone have any idea? I think I could fix it myself, but will take it to a mechanic if I have to.
