Honda Shadow 750, burning smell?

I have had this bike for a year niw, it's an '07, I changed the oil in the beginning of the season, and it sat from june-Sept because I needed a new front tired and didn't wanna ride on it too much.

Well, now after I ride, I keep getting the smell of "hot glue"

I checked the oil, good color, good level.

What else could it be, I read that it could be the clutch?

The bottom of your shoe on the exhaust pipe.

Did you use motorcycle oil? Non-recycled? Non motorcycle oil or oil refined from recycled oil has polymers in it that can give off a smell while they ruin your clutch. Double check what you used. If that is good, dump the fuel currently in it and add fresh. Normally additives are a waste of money, but if the bike hasn't been run for a few months, adding the correct amount of "SeaFoam" fuel system treatment could be beneficial. Run a tank of fresh fuel through it with the SeaFoam additive then fill the tank again with fresh fuel and you should be good to go with no worrisome smells.
If you continue to have problems I'd recommend going to www.hondashadow.net for more technical info.

Something lying on your exhaust? Like a saddlebag? Or something else?

Something burning on the exhaust pipes.

Could be an anti freeze leak somewhere.
Best way to check is with a cooling system pressure tester.
Look around the engine, especially where water hoses connect to it and check for stains because of coolant leaks.

In between the 2 cylinders (down where they connect to the crankcase) is a water pipe that connects to the F & R cylinder.
It is very common on your model for that water pipe joint to leak.

Where the two cylinders go down to a "V" - the water pipe #3 joins the two cylinders together.

If there's nothing burning on your exhaust then remove the seat and check in the big pack of wires behind the tank for a connector with 3 yellow wires going to both sides of the connector - make sure the connector and wires are not starting to overheat - will be dark brown in spots around the connectors and wires (common problem with Shadows).

  • Would a Honda Shadow Phantom 750 be a begginer motorcycle? OK. I'm 16 years old I've bought all the nessecary gear I got that idea of watching cyclecruza's squid videos and didn't want that to happen to me. Well because I shouldn't look up to my dad who rides a Harley 1200 who only wears a helment a t shirt and just jeans. I know not to go over the speed limit but all I need to know if thus good first bike.
  • What is the max speed in each gear for a 2009 Honda Shadow Spirit 750? I can't find any details, even from Honda, what the maximum speed in MPH is for each of the 5 gear ratios on my 750 Shadow. Also, what is the engine redline? No factory tach and no details on what the engine is capable of turning.
  • Is a honda shadow 750 too much bike for a beginner? I'm a pretty big guy, and they felt comfortable at the dealerships.dealerships. I'm seeing used ones selling for around 2500-3500 i great shape.3000 is about my budget, and I don't have unlimited money, I know people say to start on a 250 and sell it, but I don't really have the funds, and the 250s are about the same money as a shadow 750. I just wanna know if this bike would be an appropriate beginner
