How long would it take to attatch and detatch a side car?

Do brakes have to be attatched? Could i keep my saddle bags?

Ages. A bike with a sidecar would normally be set up with wheels that do not have to lean (much) so you would have to change them, adjust the suspension and possibly lights. Yes sidecars will usually have brakes.

There used to be little sidecars that were basically skateboards with bicycle wheels but they were only a dodge to get around licensing laws.

Attaching a sidecar is not a simple thing to do, because exact measurements are required and the toe-in has to be worked out so messuring devices are required to make the outfit rideable.

Strieb sidecars on /2 frames were a hour to remove/replace AFTER initial mount and setups which were more like 2 hours to bolt on and then adjust. The Jawa sidecar for the 350 model were fairly quick also- both example were frames designed and built for side car use and sidecars made to quickly fit onto the frames that had large hole in lower frame front and a heavy lug to side rear frame. Watsonian sidecar put on Harley 'wrong' side needs special bracketing and mirrored frame. Harley frames to 1956(?) had a lower tube right side with mounting hole for front tube mount of sidecar, rear frame tube with heavy section for rear frame clamp. Later dual glides needed the reinforcing brackets- but Harley side cars were designed for the Harley frames. Honda Shadow frame was not designe for sidecar, the specific sidecare will need to have a mounting kit with subframe and brackets, clamps for the Honda frame and basic sidecar box- and maybe the sidecar box will need to be special formed to fit without interference. First time mounting, better have saturday morning and 1/2 the afternoon free.

Shadow, I don't know. Most bikes designed 4 a hack still keep their RH bag. Most hacks don't have a brake, the ones that do and specifically fit your bike have an adapter kit. So, removing it is Chore; blocking//bleeding brake lines, etc. A custom-fit "universal" sidecar might require removal of bag, yes. Maybe even welding. A smaller set of soft leather bags will fit.
Another point: Does dealer say OK to put one on your Honda w/o primary/clutch upgrade? I was warned not to on my FXDL w/o all this plus primary bushings/bearings upgrades. Cost as much as a used hack…
