How many miles per gallon does a motorcycle give? Much cheaper than a car?

Some idio actually said a while back that a motorcycle doesn't really give that many more miles per gallon than a car! This honda Rebel gives 84 miles per gallon!

Added (1). And an msrp of only $4000 makes it a steal! Plus the legendary reliability of a honda!

Sure a bike gets better mileage than a four Wheeler. Mileage can vary a lot from bike to bike just like from one car to another. Do you live where you can ride 365 days a year. What will you do if the weather gets bad. Your bike should not be your only means of transportation.

You can get most any h-d and get 50+ mpg

Bikes do get better mileage if you compare apples to apples. But if you compare them to SEAT miles per gallon, a bike gets worse. Those that are against motorcycles will say this and this is how they figure that. A bike getting 80 mpg vs a car getting 30 mpg. A bike carries 1 passenger, a car carries 4 passengers. 80/4 = 20 mpg per seat mile (less than the car). To transport 4 people, you'd have to have four bikes. They don't consider that a bike can carry two people (if disproves their position). So, you can prove your point based upon which side of the fence you hang your feet.

My buddy's Honda Goldwing and My Honda Accord get the SAME mileage.

Yes a Rebel 250cc bike can return 80mpg. It is a real, viable alternative to gas guzzling cars.

But, there are many new cars that get between 35 and 40mpg AND many motorcycles that only return the same mileage. MOST people do not ride Honda Rebels. Teens don't want a Rebel, they want a GSXR or CBR or Ninja. Those bikes do not get 80mpg - more like 35 to 40mpg depending on how they are ridden and NO-ONE rides a sport bike like a Grandma.

A light low performance motorcycle is going to get great mileage. A 50cc scooter will get near 100mpg. A big heavy bike with big horsepower will get worse mileage than a lot of cars.

As with cars the mpg varies with capacities, state of tune and driver input. It is true that you could buy a car that will return better mpg than some bikes - but where's the fun in that?

A mid to small bike will get better mileage than a car, but they also need things like tires and chains and oil changes much more often than a car. Overall a mid to small bike will be cheaper to operate than most cars if you take it easy on them. If you ride hard you won't save a dime… Big bikes are probably more expensive to operate and maintain than most cars mile for mile.

Ignore claims, you can read what mileage real riders get: http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/

Rebel 250: 60-70 mpg average
Most bikes will give 40-50 mpg, less if you ride frisky, more if you slow down.

I ride small, a Vespa 150, and I get 67 mpg overall. There are cars with good mileage, but my Vespa can beat 95% of the cars off the line when the traffic signal goes green. My old 650 Savage gave me about 50 mpg and *nothing* could beat me off the line.

http://powersports.honda.com/...rebel.aspx -- Rebel 250 is $4,190 MSRP, plus $310 "Destination Charge", plus about $500 "set-up" -- $5,000. Plus sales tax and DMV fees.

Actually I'd disagree with you. Of course it depends on the car and the bike, but a litre sports bike could easily use more than a small hatchback. Especially if the car is a diesel. Sports bikles are not very aerodynamic and they are engineered for performance not economy. Of course any 250 will be a different matter.

That is really an idiot. The motorcycles miles per gallon varies by motorcycle models and manufacturer. Most of the motrocycles give up twice the mog as a car does. I give you a list of the complete 2013 best motorcycle base on the mpg. As you can see some get far away at 80 mpg. Motorcycles have some great features for me they look awesome, great for traffic, very economic on gas and they are fun to work on with. Also, they are lightweight so you know the speed is incredible! Go kick that idio in the but and tell him to buy a moto and see for himself.

  • Is insurance on 4 dr. Car always cheaper than a 2 dr. Car? I'm 19 and looking at cars. I'm not looking at anything fast. I don't want to end up buying a 2 dr. Geo Metro hatch or Honda Civic to save gas if I have to pay insurance like I drive a sports car! Are 2 door cars always considered 'sports cars' insurance wise?
  • How many miles to a gallon does my car have? I have a 2004 Honda Civic LX. It's a pre-owned sedan-style. Not sure what engine it has. I think it has about 10-11 gallons in it.
  • How much do you pay per month for car fuel? I just graduated and am trying to learn how to budget better. I will be driving about 20 minutes to work everyday five days a week. I was just wondering how much you pay for fuel per month, I drive a honda accord. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
  • How many miles is to many if I'm in the market for a used car? I'm looking to purchase a used 2003-2005 Honda Accord. I see a lot of them in my budget that have 170-200k mileage. If I'm looking to use the car as a daily driver to work and school ever day? This is assuming I'm going to check out and make sure the car has a good service record. Let me know your thoughts. If you have a different car that you would recommend for a max price of 2,000.
