I want to learn more about fixing up motorcycles. What's the first step I could take to do this?

I have a 94 Honda Shadow VT600. For now I thought I'd learn how to clean my carburetor. I know I need a carb-kit but I'm not sure where's the best place to get one of those.

How do you know it needs a carb kit?
1st - parts are sold individually. Only buy what is needed.
2nd - carb cleaning rarely require new parts. Don't waste your money on unnecessary components.

When it comes to carbs, buy genuine Honda parts whenever possible. Get a shop manual for your bike and follow it precisely.

The shop manual is your bible, it has all the info to take your bike completely apart and put it back togethet.

Get a service manual, read blogs and taking things apart methodically while taking notes and photos.

BTW, after cleaning and reassembling carbs, the " fun" part is adjusting them.

  • Why are their more Honda motorcycles sold than Kawasaki's & Yamaha? When the zx9r came out their were still more fireblades sold even though the zx9r was faster? And it was the same thing with the yamaha R1. Even now Kawasaki's and/or Yamaha still seem to have a little bit more horse power so why would people buy Hondas over Yamaha and Kawasaki? it Can't BE because they are cheaper because harley davidjsons sell more and are more expensive which is fact
  • Step by step to strecth and lower a honda ruckus? I'm curious as to how i go about this because i want to be the one to build my dream i don't currently have one or a specific year in mind but id also like to eventually swap out the stock 50cc for a gy6 150cc motor. Alink will even do if you don't really feel like explaining it all.
  • I want to learn about cars, where do I start? Most of my friends are now talking about different types of cars and I hardly know anything about cars. I only know certain companies that make them like Toyota and Honda. I don't want to be left out being the only one who don't know anything about cars, how can I learn more about cars. What do I do first, where do I start?
