Motorcycle engine running very hot?
I own a Honda cb125f which I purchased new in Feb 2017. A few days ago I noticed while on the bike I void feel the heat from the engine through my boots and on my leg, when I got home I checked it and could feel the heat with my hand a good 6/7inches away from the engine, and could only manage about half a second touching the engine itself.
Conditions that day were mild but a high chilly wind, and had riden the bike about 8miles and was stuck in traffic for only a few minutes. Since then It seems the engine gets hot very quick even on small journeys. I use my bike for work and travel about 2.5miles. Even the exhaust doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the engine.
Was woudnering what be causing this? The bike didn't feel smooth when running, almost like something is rough inside the engine (if that makes sense) it's odd as only have a service a couple of weeks ago
Your engine may be running lean which will cause it to run hot. Try this. Ride the bike until you think it is very hot. Stop, shut it off, and remove the oil dipstick. If you can hold the dipstick without it being so hot as to make you let go then it is not too hot. Also make sure you do not have a brake that is dragging as that can cause overheating. Also a slipping clutch will cause overheating. Lastly make sure the fins on the engine are clean. If there's a shroud around the fins remove it to make sure they are clean. If you determine it is running lean they have the carb adjusted properly.
It's normal for an air cooled engine to be too hot to touch.
Don't make a habit of touching it when it's hot, on a hot day it will burn you instantly.
Since it's an air cooled engine, just about the only things that can cause overheating are prolonged idling, which you mention, getting extremely dirty, and a problem with engine oil. It's a good idea to check the oil level yourself ever time you ride. Oil systems can fail by some sort of installation error (the wrong oil filter), oil pump failure, a stripped drain plug leaking oil, or a clogged oil filter. I would do an immediate oil change. Do you see metal shavings in the oil? That would be bad.
I agree--it may have been serviced improperly. Wrong weight oil, too low, filter in wrong. Lean carb won't make noise. Take it back immediately.
Oil filter or oil related.
It is still under warranty, take it back to the service centre.
They apparently also suffer from something called kangaroo hopping in some of the owner threads.
Your bike sounds totally normal to me
Have you checked your oil level?
If it's okay you may have a head gasket problem if the engine is down on power or the ignition/valve timing may be out. The oil pump could even be faulty. Take the bike to a garage to have it checked over.
Air cooled. Try shutting it off at long red lights.
You touched a hot engine? You may be beyond my help.
- Motorcycle running lean after removing 25kW restrictor? I recently bought a 2008 Honda Hornet (FI) and it came with 25kW. I removed the restrictor because the bike was really slow but now it's running lean - the acceleration is really sluggish, sometimes it stutters and it turns off most of the times I pull the clutch. Any idea what it might be? The spark plugs were already changed and the air filter is clean, it only started doing this after removing the restrictor.
- Does power steering fluid get hot if the car is just running and the steering isn't being used? If the pump is just spinning, recirculating fluid and nothing else… Would it still get hot? I had to bypass the pump from the rack and have the fluid recirculate. Would the pump get hot from just spinning? I know 8th gen Honda's don't have a cooler for the power steering anyways.
- My car keeps running hot! I need immediate My car keeps overheating. I have 2005 Honda Civic Ex. I have changed both thermostats, water pump, head gasket && radiator but it still continues to run hot. My mechanic says I need a new motor but I would only need a new motor if the oil && water are mixing which they aren't. Inside the car the temperature may not say it's running hot but if you look at the hood you'll see steam comin from the BRAND NEW radiator.
- 96 honda civic running hot after a long drive at stop lightd? I have a 96 honda civic just changed water pump, thermostat and all belts. Having to check oil every day, losing coolant out if radiator cap which is also fairly new. My husband drives about 200 miles a day, at a constant speed car runs great at normal temps but in the afternoon on his way home as soon as he gets into stop and go traffic temp goes up. What should we fix next?
