Repair estimate on a Honda shadow vlx?
My bike sat from October until July due to a dead battery and now the carbs and spark plugs need repairing as well as it being due an oil change. How much money am I looking at?
Replace the fuel in the tank add some techron or seafoam to the tanke and dump the fuel in the carbs (there's a screw for that) remove the air fuel adjustment screw as exo state and spray some cleaner in the hole then replace. Replace battery, choke it and try to start it. If you can keep it running (even with a little choke) let it run awhile, and see if it will eventually idle on it's own. The idle jet is very small and hard to get clean using additives but you may get lucky.
You will be looking at $400-600 for a shop to get it going again. That's not that long. The carbs may need to be cleaned. A can of carb cleaner is maybe $5.00. Count the turns on the adjustment screws and put them back the same number of turns. Spark plugs don't go bad just sitting. Exo is right, you should at least try carb cleaner before going to a repair shop. You can change spark plugs and oil yourself, in fact you -should-!

- Is a Honda Shadow VLX Deluxe a good beginners bike? Looking at a 2005 Shadow VLX Deluxe 600cc for my first bike. I'm 6' 1'' 190lbs. Just don't want to go too small and have to upgrade to soon, but don't want to die either. Don't need anything with crazy power or speed, just getting around town and some cruising.

All the batteries online look the same as this one and the cover on the bike only lets you slide it in one way (where the pos is on the right and the neg is on the left).
