Should I buy this bike? 1989 Honda Hawk?
Just got my endorsement, looking for a first bike. I stopped by a dealership (for fun really, I've been looking on Craigslist mostly). There's a 1989 Honda Hawk, nearly spotless with a few chips here and there. Dealership is asking $1,600 and I noticed they ve come down from $2000 since last month. I was looking to stay under $1500 and buy an injected bike but I really like this one. Thoughts?
Added (1). Also, is there a possibility of getting the price to $1400? Could I haggle successfully.
If you like it why not, it probably runs good. Don't let them jack up the price with fees though, tell them you can't do it if you see them tacking on all sorts of bs.
Don't buy it!
The bike is so old, parts are extremely difficult to locate.
Because of that, shops don't work on bikes more than 10 years old.
A 26 year old bike? It is one of the better makes. It will be easier to maintain as it is not injected. As long as you can still get the spares. It reminds me of the Ducatti Monster?

Caution. It's at about the age where gaskets and o-rings will need to be replaced. Check eBay prices on gasket and o-ring sets.
Don't recommend it.
Maybe nice bike and all but you'll find out that you'll be spending more time (and money) working on it than riding it. A bike like that needs an older rider that's capable of doing all the little things on an older bike. Just sold an old '86 Honda CB 650 that was showroom but still I' an old man working on old bikes because watching television bores me. It was fun to work on but it did get a bit boring after awhile (and my Triumph Tiger 955i in more fun to ride.
Your coin, just telling you the flip side.
- Where should I start in getting my 1989 Honda VTR250 to run again? It was running when it was stored 10 years ago. I want to get it running again. Battery is an obvious but where should I start? Do you think it will need any major/ expensive repairs? I've been told it should easily get running with a bit of work, what exactly does that mean?
- Which bike should i buy either of honda or yamaha? I love Yamaha bikes but due to less pocket money my parents force me to buy Honda bikes because of its resale values and also due to its costs… How should i convince them.
- Should I buy this honda hawk gt650? I'm looking into buying my 2nd bike used (started on a Suzuki gz250) and what i'm basically asking is if you think this is a good deal ( obviously i don't expect anyone to know the mechanical condition of it but one thing i noticed was some blueing/discoloration at the exhaust headers) http://brunswick.craigslist.org/mcy/5231748335.html
- I have a 1983 night hawk 650 and I want to change the clutch/brake levers? I have a 1983 honda night hawk 650 and I want to change the clutch/brake levers. Are there any modern short style levers that would fit? Like the little two finger levers that you see on modern sport bikes and stunt bikes?
