Taking out Dirtbike Baffles, GOOD OR BAD?
So I recently bought a 2006 Honda CRF230F, I love the bike to bits, the one thing I would like is for it too be louder, If I take the baffle out, will it have any long term damage or will I loose power etc? What are the Pros, and Cons?
You could burn up the valves and also lose power. If your bike was built with the baffles, the carb jets and exhaust back pressure work together. You may or may not notice the difference unless you do time trials.
Removing the baffle will reduce your back pressure and will affect exhaust scavenging. You may make the bike run worse, and potentially make it run too lean and melt something. T depends how fine the tolerances are in the set-up from the factory. If you want a louder bike, try an after market exhaust/muffler and have the bike tuned to it.
Will have to rejet/retune your bike to try to get it to run right. Buy a set of jets and a carton of spark plugs and do plug chops until you find a safe mixture.
Loud doesn't = fast.
Why does every kid want to detuned their perfectly good bike/car/quad to look "cool"?
The spark arrestor is incorporated into the baffle.
The spark arrestor is there to prevent sparks & small flames from exiting the exhaust.
SPARKS CREATE FOREST FIRES!
It is illegal to ride an off road vehicle on government land and privately owned riding parks.
Leave the baffle in the muffler.
Removing the baffles will not significantly increase exhaust noise.
