What happened to Japanese cruiser motorcycles? Why were they all discontinued? Gone since 2009?

Seems like V start, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki all dropped all their bikes of 1400cc-1600cc since 2009. Harley Davidson Dyna and Softail are 1600cc so there only comp is?

Yamaha/Star still has the 'Raider' which is 1854cc, and Suzuki has the M109 series that are all roughly 1786cc - but the rest of the larger displacement Japanese bikes are touring models now. Kawasaki has the Vulcan 'Vaquero' and 'Voyager' which are both 1700cc, Honda has the Goldwing with a six-cylinder 1832cc (the 'Valkyrie' model is a more stripped back version).

Other non-Japanese Harley competition include Victory with several models @ 106ci (roughly 1737cc), Indian - which has an 111ci (1811cc), and Triumph (Thunderbird has both 1,600cc and 1,700cc models).

You really haven't bothered looking to hard, have you? These are all 2017 cruiser models, over 1,000cc:

Honda -
F6B
Valkyrie
Fury

Kawsasaki -
Vulcan 1700 Vaquero

Suzuki -
Boulevard M109R
Boulevard M90
Boulevard C90

Yamaha -
Raider
Stryker
V-Star

Then of course there's the Indian Chiefs, the Moto-Guzzi California and MGX-21, the Ducati X-Diavel, the Triumph Thunderbird and Rocket III, etc.etc.

"I was wondering what happened to the typical 1400-1600 range engines."
They were never 'typical'. Ever.

"They where the markets standard for years."
No, they were not.

"Now everything is much smaller or larger"
As has been the way for decades.

When you're old enough to ride a motorcycle, you'll realise just how wrong your assumptions are.

Isn't this one?

  • Why was the Honda Reflex discontinued? It just seemed like a really great motor storage, looks, power, performance etc etc, why would they discontinue it?
  • Why has my Honda VTX 1300 Motorcycle been overheating ever since I laid it down? I changed the coolant, cleaned the air filter and got a new thermostat but still over heats if I'm sitting at every red light. Will start up after it cools down but always over heats when I idle too long. Any ideas?
  • Why cd100ss is discontinued? This bike was very nostalgic and I liked its classic graphics and mudguards, with rectangular headlamps. Nowadays it is very difficult to see such bikes on road. It was also a 4 stroke from beginning. Not sure why hero/honda discontinued it. CD deluxe/dawn is not really close to it in appearance
