What would make a good first motorcycle?
This is in addition to my question earlier about how to get into motorcycles. Again, I have never ridden a motorcycle before, therefore I need to learn and take courses before committing, but I'm curious about what options are available.
I really like the looks of the Harley Davidson Sportster (and I hear that they are relatively cheap for Harley Davidson). I also like some of the Honda styles that resemble the sportster style Harley. I would consider other brands, but I do not have any interest in the motorcycles that are intended for speed.
What do you guys think?
I think you need to take that Basics Riders Course and make up your own mind.
I'm not a big HD fan nor a cruiser fan for that matter BUT YOU are the person that rides the bike you have, not me.
You will learn to ride your way and if we cross paths along your journeys I'm the guy that showed a low-two to you, keep it up on two and you'll understand down the road.
You might want to start out riding a dirt bike - If you fall, the ground is softer and there are less chances of a car nailing you and you can have plenty of time to learn.
As Chris just said - You had better take a safety riding course to become familiar with riding a bike.
I'm not very impress with HD - The Honda is a good bike - Get yourself a light weight one for a starter - They can ride close to a regular bicycle -
I started out with just a 90cc Honda many years ago and it got me hooked - I have had CHP BMW bikes and many in between - better to start out light - That way you can get used to the quirks of riding without getting yourself killed. And they are a lot of fun to ride while learning.
Some small used thing like a 125 that you won't cry over when you drop it and bend the tank, and won't break your leg under. Or you can start heavy and careful and never learn where your or the bike's limits are because it's just too risky.
- What would be a good first car? I kind of don't want a Honda or a Toyota so are there any other car brands that have reliable cars?
- Which bike would be a good first sport bike. Looking at CBR1000/600's and also the yamaha R1/R6? I don't know much about the differences, I know some people are all for Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, of Kawasaki. Seems that whatever bike someone has, they say its the best. I wish I could just ride all of them and see for myself. Tampa, FL Sam
- What's a good first motorcycle? I'm looking for my first cheap, reliable motorcycle to get me into the city each day and back. I don't know much about them but I don't want anything too powerful so a 250 of some sort and preferably a japanese made bike such as yamaha and honda etc. I really like the retro/classic style bikes but I don't want it too old. Please help me out as I don't know where to even begin looking really.
- Good first street motorcycle? I have a lot of riding experience on a Honda crf150 after completing the motorcycle saftey course and getting my endorsement I'm looking for a first bike. Is a kawasaki Vulcan 500 a good choice? A Yamaha r6 is a dream bike but I'm assuming its way to much power. I'm 5'8 155 pounds btw. What's the best intermediate/beginner bike that is not to underpowered for ocational highway use?
