My go kart will turn over but won't stay on?

I have a small engine, a honda 9.0 gx270, that starts fine, (used for a go kart) and stalls a moment later. I need to know how to fix it, but not sure of the cause. Could it be flooding? I thought a flood made it hard to crank. But it starts right up. Its not the spark plugs, i replace them weekly (i work in a go karting establishment.) it has a fresh air filter. I'm stumped honestly. Any suggestions or recommendations as to what it is and how to fix?

UPDATE: the kart seems to stay on after the engine has time to warm up, any new ideas? I've heard the carb and insufficient fuel, but does that have anything to do with the kart warming up? I'm a learning mechanic and i have lots if questions.

Loosen the gas cap, then see what happens. If the vent in the cap is clogged, that will cause the issues you're having.

  • What kind of engine should i put in go-kart? I want a off road veicle that can go 50-60 MPH or higher. I'm going to get a honda engine but how big should it be. It has to be able to get through mud to.

  • My car turns over properly but the engine races and won't shift gears? I have a 2003 Honda CR-V with about 182,000 miles on it. Has been driving perfect until last night when I turned it on and the engine was racing like I was accelerating and I was unable to shift gears. What could be causing this and what kind of repair bill could I be looking at?
