Low tire pressure. Pressure gauge doesn't work in winter?
I know temperature change affects tire pressure. Where I live, the temperature dropped suddenly from around -5C to -20C and been around -20C for several days. Likewise, the tire pressure light also turned on.
The problem is, I went to a gas stations to inflate the tires, but none of their pressure gauges were working. The gauge reading the measurements was stuck inside with a lot of force and wouldn t pop out like it normally does to give a pressure reading. I then went to another gas station, and then another, and another, yet exact same problem with every inflator.
Does the inflator gauge malfunction in such cold temperatures or is it just a big coincidence that none of them were working?
Also, since I see no other reasonable option of fixing this issue, is it okay if I continue to drive with low pressure, temporarily (a few weeks)? The vehicle is a 2015 Honda Odyssey, with 33psi recommended tire pressure.
Buy your own gauge, keep it in the car or your pocket where it's warm.
Inflate the tire a bit, check the pressure, repeat until it's right
Buy a digital gauge to use. The gauges at gas stations are often inaccurate anyway. I would put at least some air into the tires to turn off the low pressure indicator. Blow some in and count to ten on each tire.
Usually the pumps don't show if there's not enough pressure in the tire. (assuming the pump is electronic) but that is usually under 18psi or something close.
A easy way to make all of this simple for you is to go to a wal mart and buy a 12 volt air compressor, it plugs into the cig. Lighter and then you have it any time you may need it. And while your there get your own pressure gauge, it will keep all of this from happening again.
Buy your own gauge to use. This way you have one consistent gauge to use, not multiple gauges at different pumps which may or may not be accurate.
Don't you have your own gauge and pump?
A foot pump works fine.
The metal part that is pushed onto the tire stem is frozen.
You could fill a spray bottle with some blue wiper fluid and spray it on the metal part and try again.
Or I would suggest buying a slime air compressor. I have the 40022 model and it works well. It has a digital setting and automatically cuts off when it gets to the pressure set.
Or I think there's one above that is more heavy duty, not sure, do some research.
Keep it in the house and dry out the inflation attachment after use.
Best money I have ever spent. The gas station air pumps never work. And if you have a slow leak, you can keep that in the car and use it for a few days until you can get to the tire store.
Go to a parts store and buy a tire pressure gauge. The $2 works but buy one for $4. It will work on a truck tire with higher pressures. The cheap one won't.
No you need to get a pump and gauge and not rely on the garage ones
Go to a tire store with an indoor service bay and have them inflate your tires for you. You can't trust those free or coin-op outdoor inflators, especially in really cold weather.
- Punctured tire replacement - can I replace only 1 tire - is it safe to replace the PUNCTURED tire only? My 2005 Honda Pilot rear left tire was punctured near the threshhold (ie - sidewall), but still usable. Thus the tire dealer patched it only. Should I replace that punctured tire only? Or should I replace the 2 tires on the same axle? Or even buy a whole set of 4 tires? I'm concerned about safety, and thus your best advice is very appreciated.
