Why do people buy new cars that are in its final year?

Like why do people buy 2017 Honda Accord or Odyssey when they are being completely redesigned for 2018?

I mean don't you want the latest and the best technology and not 4-5 year old tech?

At least they know the bugs are worked out.

Usually because the 2017 will be reduced in price to get those off the lot, in time for the new releases.Unless people really like the new design, there's no need.Redesigned doesn't necessarily mean new options and technology.A lot of them will still work for the previous model. And possibly a bigger option deal on it for a discount price, which maybe the base care for the new model next year. If that makes sense.

Most people don't keep-up on the who's and why's of car building. They just assume that any car sold in the US has to have all the guarantees that come with cars MADE in the US, like guaranteed availability of repair parts for five or ten years.

Because they are still new cars, and at the end of the year the dealerships need to make room on their lot for the newer models. So they drop the prices and add extra features to move them. I bought my 2016 tacoma off road in february of 2016 and my buddy got one at the end of the year and he saved a couple thousand. Also some people don't like the new versions of the cars, so buying one at the end of the year they get the vejicle they want, but at a better price.

Maybe they know that the old design has proven itself
Maybe they do not want the latest electonics. I avoided a newer model
of infotainment system because it was just not as good.
(I also avoided the Iphone 6 when they first came out)
Maybe they get a good deal as the dealership is trying to unload
the models from last year.

Dude, most automobile consumers know nothing or care nothing about design changes and such. They care more about the color of the car than about anything else. In other words, most car buyers are pretty stupid when it comes to buying cars.

Same reason trolls hide their identity.

The first year of production of a totally new model is bound to have some problems. The last production year of a model that has been in production for years will have all the kinks worked out and be more reliable as a result.

The most extreme example is the VW Beetle, Which was manufactured from 1938 until 2003 with continuous but minor modifications all along the way. Eventually the entire concept became obsolete.

Because they are "proven" designs, with all the recalls fixed at the factory, and all the common bugs worked out. Also the manufacturer often does "run out" special prices to move the last of the old model before they release the new ones, which are always more expensive.

So there are some quite good reasons to buy the last of a particular model, while the new model may only have couple of new features, cosmetic changes and comes with some bragging rights.

  • Why do some people buy new cars to save gas? It seems like people complain about high gas prices so they go and buy these expensive gas saving cars. Usually a Honda or Toyota hybrid that's about $35,000 dollars. So what's the point of buying the car if you just wasted all that money. You could have just used that money for gas. Don't you think it's better to just buy a cheap $1,000 dollar Honda and save all that money for gas? Because buying the new car you pretty much threw all the money away.
  • Why do people get mad over the fact that their cars require full synthetic oil? I work as a mechanic and found some people do not like the fact 2010 and up toyotas and Hondas and almost all 2014 cars and European cars require full synthetic oil. A majority of the anger comes towards toyotas and Hondas. Despite me explaining the increased intervals, they still get angered at the fact. Is it just me or does less time doing oil changes that save you more money in the long run end up coming out cheaper despite the increased price and why would they be angry saving money?
  • Why do uneducated people usually date other uneducated people? Like some hoodlum Mexican woman will fall madly in love with some cholo gang banger guy with face tattoos who's killed 10 people and works at McDonalds and thinks his primary aspiration in life is to smoke weed and collect air Jordan's and put a stupid spoiler on his 1995 Honda Civic. What's the attraction?
  • Why do people buy low powered cars like Subaru BRZ and Honda Civic? These cars aren't cheap either like $10,000. So what's the point of buying these cars when you can add a bit more money and get much better cars?
