Transmission - rebuild or remanufactured?
My 2003 Honda Pilot's transmission is finally giving out after 210,000 miles. A new transmission is definitely out of the question. Should I consider getting it rebuilt or buy a remanufactured one? With a rebuild, do they just replace broken/worm parts, or do they change out everything? Now with a remanufactured one, I've been reading that EVERYTHING gets changed out and its also tested to perform correctly, like its original state.
Get a used one from a younger car. The rest of yours is about to wear out. No sense in spending more than 500 on it. If you can't fix it for that cut your losses and get a different one.
Either way only friction parts -- bands and clutches -- and bearings are universally replaced. Other components are inspected for wear, cracks, and other defects and are replaced as needed. Even when those components show wear out of specification, some can be returned to original spec while others must be replaced with new or serviceable used parts.
Honda transmissions do not use bands. Rebuilt and remanufactured transmissions are basically the same. All parts are inspected and bad parts replaced good parts that are up to specs get reused. All frictions and worn or burnt steels get replaced and bands if used in that particular transmission along with sprags and seals. If they replaced all parts in a remanufactured transmission that transmission would be double in price that it goes for now. Find local shop at ATRA.COM for more help
- Want to rebuild engine. What work will I need a machine shop for? I have done a lot of minor car work myself, but this is the first time I've looked into doing an engine rebuild. It's a Honda b18c, and I'm just wondering what work I could likely do myself with basic garage tools, and what work I'll definitely need a machine shop for?
- Transmission going out on friend's 2004 Impala. Is it possible to install a manual transmission taken from a 1992 Honda Civic in this car? Not worth replacing trans on a car this old, but the engine and everything else are still perfect. My friend was able to get a free manual trans from a 1992 Honda Civic. But i'm not sure whether or not you can use a trans from a different vehicle
- How difficult is it to rebuild my Honda Rebel Motorcycle transmission? It is an 06 Honda CMX250. There are broken fork shards inside the transmission (possibly the engine) and I don't have the money to take it in or get a new bike. I have past experience rebuilding since I rebuilt one that's exactly the same as this. I'm patient and willing to take my time to make sure everything is done right. How long would it take to take my transmission off my motorcycle, open up and clean and replace whatever parts needed?
- Honda rancher differential rebuild? The actual question that for some reason I've never pay attention to before is the rear differential bearings, both roller and needle in my case, do I need to grease them or will the gear oil keep them lubed. These aren't sealed bearings so I half way want to but I'm not sure I should. I would have just looked at the old ones to see if they had grease but the were caked with mud and water.
