Safe cars with good gas mileage for college kids?
My parents bought me a 2001 Toyota Tacoma but it gets like 22mpg at most and they won't sign the truck over to me even though they insisted on buying it, so I'm looking for my own vehicle. That truck is very small, a 2-seater, and I barely have room for anything in it especially if there's a passenger.
I'm not looking to buy anything soon, probably within the next 2-3 years. I'm working 2 jobs to save up money till then. I'd prefer a new car, that way there's not many miles on it.
What are the best, safest, affordable vehicles out there for a college kid? I don't like weird-shaped cars such as Kia Souls. Honda Fits are ok though. Are they a good car?
Be thankful that your parents have given you transportation. If the car was in your name the insurance would also need to be and that could cost you several hundred dollars per month to maintain. 22mpg is not bad mileage for the so called economy car group so buying another may only give you a few miles per gallon more which is not a big advantage. Have you considered adding a tonneu cover on the bed to provide more secured storage area?
The Soul's spacious interior provides impressive leg room and cargo space. With it's innovative features and unique design, it's certainly one of a kind. We recommend stopping by your local Kia dealership and taking one for a test drive.

- Are Honda Fit's good/reliable/safe cars? I feel like these are good first cars from reviews etc… And I could get a used one at a decent price (below $6k). Anyway, would you recommend a Honda Fit for a first car?
- Are compact and subcompact cars safe? I ask because my mom says that, for example, a Honda Fit or even a Civic aren't safe cars. She says the smallest Honda I could drive is an Accord (and I know they don't have a sedan larger than that). So, is it true that cars like the Civic and Fit aren't safe?
- Why does my car get unusually good gas mileage than normal? It's a 98 Honda Civic. I do 2 hours of Combined city and highway driving for 5-6 days a week. I kinda have a heavy foot, the rims are 1" bigger than stock and the car is due for it's next tune up this coming Monday. The car is rated at 28mpg combined when it was shiny back in 1998, and when I calculated mine i got 32 mpg combined, my calculation isn't wrong either as i have an mpg calculator
- Why do kids in modified Honda Civics try to race EVERYBODY? I was coming back from the Aston dealership with my new Aston Martin Rapide S and some kid in a lawnmower, I mean Honda Civic tried racing me. I gave in and raced him, kicked the kids ***, but this has happened before, with cars I've had in the past. Is there any reason for this or are they just trying to be little douche bags?
