Tire size to prevent rim damage?
Ignoring the type of rim material and how its made. Which tire size is pretty good at preventing RIM damage? I have Honda's stock 215/65 R16 and drove with them a year and nothing ever happened. I bought some 215/35 R18 on craigslist for a really cheap price in my opinion. After like two weeks I went on a good size pothole and I could tell the wheel got messed up. I parked and thought it was the tire for sure that blew up or something, to my surprise the tire was intact but the RIM was bent. Rim fixed for $100. Another two weeks or so and ta-da again same exact thing. Another $100. However, this time I went on to purchase new bigger tires I got 225/40 R18 all four at $420. This time I went on about a month before I hit this enormous pothole. Another $100. I let that one go since it was pretty big and since it was my daily path I saw other cars stranded there due to that enormous pothole. Well two more weeks and now another wheel was semi-flat in the morning, thinking it was a flat due to a nail or some puncture I went to get it patched and there I get the news that the rim is slightly bent.
I'm over these FUSION BLACK TRACE RIMS. Even though the rims from Honda and these Fusion seem the same, or least sure feel the same to me.
I would just like to know what you guys have on. Please tell me the whole size of the tire. I know for sure I'm never going to buy;
215/35 RXX
225/40 RXX
They will let the Rim take damage.
Added (1). The RXX is supposed to mean any Rim size
Put 44 psi in the tires, any less and a cigarette but is going to bend the rims.
35s are too skinny. Try 45s or 50s.
- Punctured tire replacement - can I replace only 1 tire - is it safe to replace the PUNCTURED tire only? My 2005 Honda Pilot rear left tire was punctured near the threshhold (ie - sidewall), but still usable. Thus the tire dealer patched it only. Should I replace that punctured tire only? Or should I replace the 2 tires on the same axle? Or even buy a whole set of 4 tires? I'm concerned about safety, and thus your best advice is very appreciated.
- What tire size will fit 2013 honda civic EX-L on 17 inch wheels while maintaining the stock height? I currently have 16 inch stock rims with 205/55R16 tires and I recently ordered a 17" rims for my car, but I still have trouble figuring out what wheels would fit those rims so that I can still keep the stock height and not have any gap in between or rub my fenders! Your reply is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Please answer it if you really know about it because once I buy these tires, I can't return them! Again, Thanks a lot in advance.
