What are signs your car needs new spark plugs?

I have a newer Honda with 75k miles. It started making loud noises in the morning and seems to be running rough like not accelerating as fast as before.

I have read that Honda uses NGK iridium tip with 120k mile rating. So should I wait til 120k miles?

Spark plugs are generally more of an indicator of other problems than the root cause. If they are fouled, it 'can' cause rough running but replacing them won't fix why they are fouled… Its doubtful a modern vehicle can actually wear a plug out under 100k miles. Also, it would be more likely the wires are bad than the plugs.

It could be something just as simple as bad gas. I would recommend going to the auto store and getting some lucas to put in there.

I would say it isn't the spark plugs that is causing your issue.

I'd replace them at 100,000 miles. Are you aware of the fact that all Honda motors have a common problem with the valves getting tight? The valves need to be adjusted every 60,000 miles. You end up with a loss of power and a shaky idle when your valves are too tight.

  • Spark plugs covered with oil plus exhaust smoke? Just got the carbs cleaned and working perfectly on my 82 Honda Nighthawk 450. I started the bike and just a moment later there's a white smoke coming from the engine and exhaust. I took the spark plugs off to aid in addressing the issue and I have found that there's a black oil on them. Anybody have an idea as to what's going on here?
  • How to read spark plugs over time? I know how to read spark plugs but over time, would a reading be accurate? Have a Honda whose spark plug is maybe 2 years old, would its reading still be similarly accurate as if it was only after a first good week of use? Stock everything, the porcelain is black, I'm upjetting now with a aftermarket exhaust and filter, should I upjet with if the porcelain is black? With the length of time? Should I try a new reading with a new plug? (Already installed one)

  • Won't start not sure if water pump needs replacing or needs new engine? 2004 Honda civic DX 1.7L engine 155k? My car won't start i had to press the gas really hard to get it going before but now it started smoking(white) from under the hood and smelling burnt every time we try and start it up. I saw leaking under the car. Probably the coolant because its blue. Not sure if a new water pump and timing belt would do the job and or if we need to swap the entire engine. Before this I noticed that the engine would get hot or shut off whenever we stopped moving and finally this happened.
