What tires will improve my truck handling through highway curves and handling?
I have a 2003
Honda Element awd. My mechanic recently told me that I have have little tread left on my tires and that the best action before is to replace my tires before winter. This time I have the opportunity to possibly find myself a good set of tires if any
Anyways, I'm running stock sized Yokohama geolander by/s tires. Like I said my goal in repacking these tires is to get tires that have all season capabilities esp in rain and snow along with a ride that is smoother(non unbearable noise). That's just one of the traits I'm prioritizing but I also what good tires that will make my truck handle better through highway curves, corners and overall I want tires that will give me better handling/stability an higher highway speeds?
Based on the current stock sized tires I have, is there any other tire brand that is better than what I have and that will give what I'm looking for(from what I stated
Above)?
Try some goodyear eagle tires. I bought a used cop car that had them and I could tell the difference in handling.
First you have to ask yourself which is more important, handling or traction and off road performance. To improve handling, to make it hold the corners better at higher speed, you want bigger rims and low profile tires with a summer type tread. That will make it ride harder and you definitely should stay on the roads. On the other hand if you want winter ability and off road, you want either the stock rims or SMALLER ones so you can put on tires with a higher profile for more room between the road and the rim with a deep tread. Snow tires are too soft to use year around so get a good set of off road tires. Handling will suffer and you will have to take the turns slower. Remember, good cornering does not go with winter traction and off road ability.
Suv's suck at handling and tires won't make a big difference. I know this because my dad has one. The only real advantage of an suv is the ground clearance. Sell the element a buy a small sedan or even a rwd sports car like a miata or subaru brz.
Well Marc, from your years of asking questions we know you're not very intelligent, but a logical and intelligent person would go to a tire dealer or two and get expert advice.
Go to TireRack.com and read some of the reviews for tires that will fit your car.
When I worked at the Mitsubishi dealer years ago the Montero's came with those POS Yokohama Geolander's. They have very week sidewalls and you'd have terrible body roll around curves. Michelin Defenders have a stiffer sidewall and perform much better.
Mark: I recall that you bought those tires less than two years ago. What kind of mileage warranty do you have? Isn't it 65,000 miles?
Also, you need a set of cheap all-season radials like Bridgestone Dueler APT.
What about those cheap tires? Will they give me what I wish for(better handling through highway curves /stability) and perform better than the ones I current have now?
Go with GOODYEAR, but any tier will give you better traction than what you now have.
