What's the point of a grille?

On a car, what's te point of having a grille? Without one you would get better air flow especially on newer hondas i've seen they have like barely any place for airflow.

It is for airflow, but they can't just have a hole, so they make grille with nice designs.

Cooling air for the radiator and engine. It's a trade off between streamlining and keeping the engine cool.

Modern designs pull up lot of air up from behind the front bumper, and so need a smaller front grille.

It improves the looks.
It stops larger debris getting into the radiators.
It helps prevent injury if you hit a pedestrian.
It can guide the airflow.
It can improve the aerodynamics.

To cover the radiator without impeding the air flow.

Because you need airflow through the radiator to cool the motor.

They are to protect the radiator from being hit by larger objects.

Originally, the grille was just a protective screen or structure placed ahead of the radiator to protect it from damage. As technology changed and designers looked for ways to distinguish their cars from others, the grille took on a more decorative role, but it still was needed to protect the opening in front of the radiator.

It's a piece of trim!
