Why do oil changes cost so much for Volkswagen?

Compared to for ex. Toyota or honda oil changes? I realize it is dependant on where you go. However, i've been to various places outside of dealerships and still the oil change costs more than my friend's who have other cars like honda or toyota…

Shouldn't, unless VW specs so super-fancy oil or charges $ 25 for the filter. Maybe it's synthetic oil?

German manufactured cars are built to high standards and so are the parts which includes the oil produced to protect the engine from foreign nasties along with major wear and tear

Hi so as it will also depend on what else is done not just oil being changed the FILTER is even more important than the oil itself. Add to this mostly done during a service to the car as well this takes the form of a diagnostics check as well to find and rectify any error codes found in the engine and body module computers. Yes it goes beyond just an oil change sunshine these days it needs to to make sure the VOLKSWAGEN product does not become another disaster like the Emission issue.

Even if you are getting the oil change done outside of dealership in a garage etc, then they will charge a considerable markup for this. Even if they are not using a top of the range oil, you are paying extra for the convenience and peace of mind. If you are happy to do the oil change yourself, then you will benefit financially, learn a useful skill and you will also be able to make sure you are putting a quality oil of your choice in your engine. Alternatively, buy an oil of your choice and take it in for them to use in place of their over priced standard garage oil, this is a popular way of saving money for this.
If you are unsure what oil to use, then use the look up guide below:

Fully Synthetic oil as likely to be used by a Main dealer is expensive.

Easy solution either trade your car for something different and or buy the stuff and change it yourself!

It should not be anything special. The oil filter costs more(even at Walmart) for VW because it is a large one. Honda and Toyota have oil filters the size of an orange. The car takes 4 Qts of oil and it can be regular motor oil(it does not have to be synthetic). Any brand of oil(as those oil companies have a lot of oil to sell.) The guys who do the oil changes go by what the book says should be charged per change. They are also very high for people that drive RR, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche (the expensive cars). Rich people who own rich cars can spread the wealth. So you are classified as having an "Upper class car" It has been that way since the first car. They got classified as being upper class or Lower class vehicles.

That has never changed. Honda is not that much cheaper, nor is Toyota.
You are talking pennies.

Is it a diesel? Diesel VWs take a specific type of oil. Did you ever ASK the oil change jockeys WHY?!

Try Walmart tire and oil lube express.
