Why does my car have sporadic acceleration?

I have a 2003 Honda Element 4 spd auto with almost 140,000 miles and sometimes I noticed whenever I get on the gas from a complete stop, I have to accelerate faster than normally to get up to speed but occasionally if I give it a little gas, the car picks up speed quickly and the transmission downshifts responsively?

I experienced this whenever I driving on a COMPLETELY FLAT road with no small hills or any other steep grade.

Why does my car act like this? What could be the cause? The only thing I had a mechanic at pepboys tell me was that I need a 3 step fuel service cleaning, and after that bc I have a check engine light that reads a faulty o2 sensor I need a new set of spark plugs. This does not make sense bc I use iridium NGK plugs and they should last me for a long time. It was replaced around 95,000 miles. I changed the air filter. I'm suspecting the fuel filter might be a cause however my particular Honda model only sells the entire fuel pump system.

Do you know what your O2 sensor does?

Do you know what happens when it provides bad data to your ECU?

I've answered this same question about a dozen times. It is like trying to put out a forest fire with a spoon. Might have also fried/clogged your cat as well.

Stop spamming and fix your brick.

Why don't you simply have your O2 sensor problem dealt with, rather than keep dreaming up imaginary other faults? You've been told this many times, enough is enough.

Hey dude… Did you get your valves adjusted yet?
It's a damn Element. It's not a race car so just drive the SOB.

  • Our 2006 honda odyssey lost acceleration/power and was towed? Was towed. On first start now, it starts for 1 second and immediately turns off. On second start, it only whines like a flooding sound. The engine light is on. The van is stranded. Please let me know where to start. What do these symptoms mean? What are the signs of a bad egr valve? It it air or fuel intake? Spark plugs are fairly new. Starter is fairly new. Our budget is very small.
  • Choppy, hesitant acceleration in 1995 Honda Odyssey? This problem has been going on for about a month now. Frequently, when I accelerate from a complete stop or speed up after I get going the motor does accelerate smoothly. It will be sort of a choppy acceleration. Once I reach the speed I want the car runs and sounds very smooth without any choppiness. What could be wrong? Injectors? Spark Plugs? Ignition coil or wires?
  • 2012 Honda Civic slow acceleration? Last Sunday I bought a 2012 Honda Civic LX Coupe. My first car that I'm financing all on my own and I love it, but I've noticed that it seems a little slow to accelerate. My last car was an '03 Accord with a V6 and I'm not sure if I'm just still used to driving a car that's so fast or if I should be concerned. Everything besides that runs perfectly, its just that one thing. Has anyone else experienced this or know anything about it?
  • 1997 Honda Civic acceleration issues? So recently I bought a 1997 Honda Civic Ex VTEC. The car has the Check Engine Light on, I got it check and it's the Throttle Position Sensor, so I'm not sure if that's causing the car to accelerate slowly, also the car is a 5 speed! My RPMs go up fast, but the car accelerates slowly, I did the 4 gear thing to see if the clutch slips, but nothing it's a good clutch and my car stalled!
