Check engine light is on and car is shaking?
I have a 1997 honda accord. Today, the upper radiator hose split and filled the car with steam. I replaced the hose and refilled the antifreeze, but the check engine light is still on. Now, the car shakes badly whenever it is in park. It also shakes when accelerating or braking, but not as badly when maintaining a steady speed. Do you know how to fix this and how much it would cost?
Sounds like it got hot and blew the head gasket or cracked the head.
Before you do anything or make any assumptions you need to get the code read.
Shaking while parked is called rough idle and that can be caused by a vacuum leak at the least.
- My 2013 Honda Pilots VTM-4(4WD mode) and Check engine light are on? A few miles latter I restarted the engine again, a few times and only the Check engine light was on. After driving a mile or so I turned off the car and started a couple of minutes later but this time no lights were on. A few miles before those two light went on, it felt like the car kind of jolted a little but I'm not too sure if it was an engine misfire or a pothole.
- Check engine light, open door light, and batterie light all came on and won't go off? 2000 Honda Odyssey I already had the altinator replaced it a month old. The batterie almost a year old. Would the belt need be changed or something else?
- I'm driving a 96 honda civic and my car has been shaking and overheating? I have check for leaks and everything is fine but i do have a rusted spark plug, i'm wondering if that may be the cause of shaking and excessive overheating to the point i'm driving with the heater on all the time. Can anyone let me know if the spark plug is the problem and if i replace this one rusted plug will the car drive back normally?

My car is driving fine (just a slight jerking every now and then, but that's another issue i'll get fixed). The fact that it did that then stopped worries me… Help?!
