Check engine light is this a fuel tank issue?

Check Engine Light: P1457
I have a fuel tank leak and I need it replaced As soon as possible. My mechanic said that is what is causing the issue of my check engine light (he's a very good mechanic and fixed a few of my check engine lights in the past) but some people on here are saying he is wrong
what do you guys think?
P1457 can be caused by a loose gas cap. So if you have a leaking fuel tank, I would say it is safe to assume it can cause the same code as well. It is for an EVAP control system leak. Either case, if it has a leaking fuel tank, it needs to be fixed. Gasoline attracts moisture, so you do not want water in your fuel.

Well you just hand over all that money to your trusted mechanic, or find out what the real problem is.
How do you know the fuel tank has a leak? Check your fuel cap might need replacing. That code is related to a problem with gas cap. Or look for dripping fuel under the car where the tank is.
That code relates to the vapour capture system from the fuel tank. It's usually caused by a loose petrol cap or a gummed up vent valve. I'd expect a leak in the fuel tank would also cause it.
It can be as simple as a loose gas cap. Minor hc leak.
- What is the the difference between a resin tank long and a resin tank short? For a 2001 honda passport? What is the the difference between a resin tank long and a resin tank short? For a 2001 honda passport 2wd? What are the measurements for each thank you
- Check engine light, open door light, and batterie light all came on and won't go off? 2000 Honda Odyssey I already had the altinator replaced it a month old. The batterie almost a year old. Would the belt need be changed or something else?
- Does the fuel tank size have any impact on fuel economy between vehicles? For example the new Honda Accords have a 56 Litre tank while the CRV has a 53 L and the Rogue a 55 L. Now the 2 latters are compact crossovers and are arguably bigger in size than the Accord, so would that mean they are using up more gas? Would that mean its better to buy the Accord if we were going based on just gas mileage?
- Is a Check Engine Light P1456 Code the same as P0456? I have a check engine light on my 2002 Honda Civic & scanned it with the diagnostic tool and the code came up P1456. The code booklet that came with the tool only has P0456. Is it the considered the same code? This is the diagnosis: very small evap emission control system leak. I will get a new gas cap and hopefully that will clear it but if not I will have to do a smoke test. But is the P1456 the same as P0456?
