Rebuilt or new axles(half shafts) are so cheap. Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation just replace the axle.
It's better to just buy a new complete axle and put it in rather than trying to replace the CV joint boot. Nobody replaces the boots anymore. I'd just drive it the way it is until you hear the CV joint knocking when turning sharp and accelerating.
You take it to a competent shop and have THEM replace it. Merely asking such a vague and ignorant question on this forum conclusively proves that you do not have the knowledge, skills, or intelligence necessary to perform such a task, and it is unlikely in the extreme that you would have the proper tools either.
- Punctured tire replacement - can I replace only 1 tire - is it safe to replace the PUNCTURED tire only? My 2005 Honda Pilot rear left tire was punctured near the threshhold (ie - sidewall), but still usable. Thus the tire dealer patched it only. Should I replace that punctured tire only? Or should I replace the 2 tires on the same axle? Or even buy a whole set of 4 tires? I'm concerned about safety, and thus your best advice is very appreciated.
- What would happen if you tried to drive a car with a boot on it? What would happen if there was a boot on the front wheel of a Honda Civic, and you put it in reverse and floored it? Would you just tear up the body, or would the car actually not be able to move?
- How important is the rubber boot for the headlight? I changed the headlight on my 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe and I forgot to put the boot back in; what role does the boot play exactly and how important is it? I'm in the process of looking for it, and ordering a new one failing that (less than $5), but I would like to know if I should make that a priority.
- Boot button/lever for 1997 Honda CRX? I can't seem to find a button to open the boot, its difficult to get info on this car, help would be much appreciated.
