You can remove the top part of the timing belt cover pretty easily, then use a strong light to look down at the front of the crankshaft. You won't be able to see much around the belt, but all you are looking for is signs of oil near the top of the crankshaft near the block (leaky seal) or oil well above the crankshaft (not seal). If you want to remove the bottom part of the cover to see better you will have to remove the harmonic damper, and at that point it would make sense to just replace the seal.
I'm with thebax2006. The valve cover is much more likely to leak and after a couple decades you can bet the tube seals that are part of the valve cover set are goners. It won't be the oil sender, which is on the back of the engine.
You need to check for an oil leak coming from higher up on the motor before saying a crankshaft seal is bad. Look for leaks at:
The valve cover gasket
The head gasket
The oil pressure warning light sending unit.
Transmission cooler lines
Power steering lines
Oil or fluid from those items can rundown the motor and look like a crankshaft seal leak.
Hard to tell. Degrease the engine and idle it until you see a leak. Make sure the oil level is good.
- Where to buy Honda CG 125 BR-F/J 85-91 fairing rubber seal? My cg is missing one of the rubber seals that attaches the fairing to the frame, any idea where I can buy replacement ones? Couldn't find one on wemoto.com
- Honda pcx crankshaft locks under throttle? My friends pcx blew and the crankshaft seized we un seized it with a breaker bar to find out it spins smoothly but when you open the throttle it cuts out and the crankshaft locks up straight away? Is there a throttle activated oil pump in these or what could it be. I'm used to working on 2t bikes done plenty of rebuilds & as far as 4t bikes I've only done dirt bike engines which aren't fuel injected… Does anyone know?
- 1994 WMX Husqvarna 125cc needs a crankshaft? Hi I have a 1994 WMX 125 (also referred to a CR 125, WXE 124, ect, ect) its a Husqvarna Cagiva It seems finding a crankshaft for this bike even from 1991-1994 is next to impossible but I've read that honda and husqvarna cagiva shared many dimensions within those years - I do believe the pistons interchange - so is there any chance that the crankshafts interchange?
- What would cause power steering fluid to leak out of an input shaft seal? Would replacing the seal fix this issue? I don't see why fluid is even entering the steering gear/shaft area anyways. I thought it doesn't. 2008 Honda Civic coupe
