What part should I replace?
My wife's car is clanking pretty bad when she turns so I checked the cv axle and it's ok but the upper tie rod boot is leaking. I jacked the car up an wiggled it around there's some play but not a lot. My mother inlaw took it to a mechanic and they didn't really know what was. They said the r&p is ok but i don't know what else could be wrong then other than the ball joint. Also the car doesn't steer funny other than its out of align and can't be aligned because of the problem. Her car is a 2003 Honda Pilot.
Here's a pic of the leak. Its right where the tie rods meets the R&P
It's either a CV joint or a sway bar end link. Take it to another mechanic, anyone that's really a mechanic should be able to figure this out in 5 minutes.
- Punctured tire replacement - can I replace only 1 tire - is it safe to replace the PUNCTURED tire only? My 2005 Honda Pilot rear left tire was punctured near the threshhold (ie - sidewall), but still usable. Thus the tire dealer patched it only. Should I replace that punctured tire only? Or should I replace the 2 tires on the same axle? Or even buy a whole set of 4 tires? I'm concerned about safety, and thus your best advice is very appreciated.
- How much should I pay to replace the AC compressor on a 2010 Honda Odyssey? The air conditioning on my wife's minivan recently went out. I had her take it to a mechanic expecting a refill situations costing less than $100. When they got back to us they said the clutch would not engage on the AC and it required replacement costing over 1100 dollars. I've seen the part online for $250 to 450. How much is reasonable to pay for this repair? Would I be better off buying the part online and having someone else install it? I'm told the job is about 3 hours.
- If my 92 honda key isn't working, can I replace just the part where the key goes in, or do I have to do more? They are telling me that with installation, it will be like $300 at least, My friend just had the same problem, but in an much older pick up, but she said they just replaced a small part where they ket goes in?
- How much should it cost to replace ignition? I own a honda prelude 1999, when i go to start it the dash lights turn on and the radio and i can turn the key which starts it but when i turn the key back to the position it would drive in the car shuts off. Also sometimes when i'm driving it stalls when it shouldn't. Do i need a new ignition or is it something else and if so how much would it cost in a mechanic shop to be fixed? And how much would it cost to just buy an ignition and do it myself?
