White smoke coming out of the car after over doing it with motor oil?
So i'm 18 years old. My mom gave me her old car, a honda 2003. She told me to be checking the oil and water every week. Recently i asked my boyfriend to go buy more oil just in case we need it. He came back with a big gallon of oil (5 quarts) and decided to put the whole thing in. (The car didn't need water at the moment ) . Yes, he put the whole thing in. (My boyfriend knows very little of cars) . As we were driving we noticed white smoke coming out, a lot! When i pressed on the gas it barely advanced but just a bunch of white smoke came out. We had to drive back home. I have very little money ( literally no money ) . What can i do? How can i fix this? What's wrong with my car please help and answer.

Drain the oil, put in the right amount. If you keep driving it you will destroy the engine (if it hasn't been ruined already). Ian K is right. About 4.4 quarts. A little less if you don't change the filter. If it doesn't run right after i would think you need new spark plugs. First off, you need to kick your boyfriend to the curb. It sounds like he destroyed your engine. The white smoke(actually steam) means that it is leaking coolant into the combustion chamber. I can't imagine that overfilling it with oil would damage a head gasket, so I would guess you cracked a head or block. You idiot.don, t drive another foot. Drain all the oil out Now. And put in a new filter and just 4 qaurts. You have probly ruined the entire engine. I, ve never sween this utter stupidity in my entire life.A man that knows nothing about cars is worthless. Only one good answer.white is water… Oil is blue… Head gasket or cracked head Hi so you have never heard the phrase a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Which is just the case here. Too much oil damages engines just like too little. Now it has blown out all the seals which will need to be replaced. So expense far beyond what you could afford on a 12 year old car designed to for 8 years. So no gift and a nightmare boy friend time to dump him.

- Mechanic said he rebuilt the engine, smoke coming out of engine, could it be the grease burning off? The mechanic said he rebuilt the engine to my 1974 Honda CB550 I bought from him. Said he rebuilt the engine and is in perfect running condition. He has many bikes lying around and seems as if he is a hobbyist for bikes. He told me that he basically greased up a lot of parts of the motor and it is burning the grease off. The next oil change I do should remove the excess grease.
- If in the owners manual it says I should use 5W-20 motor oil, can I use 10W-40 motor oil instead? I have a 2009 Honda Fit. I just recently bought 10W-40 and when I got home to put oil in the manual said 5W-20. What's the difference? And is it okay if I still use the 10W-40?
- Too much oil in engine, white smoke? I excessively overfilled my engine with oil (more than 5 quarts) in my 2001 Honda Civic EX. I drained the excess oil out after the car would not allow me to acclerate. After draining the excess oil and refilling it to its correct levels, smoke keeps coming out from the exhaust when the car is idle and when I drive it around the block for several minutes. The smoke is rather light in color (almost white or light grey). What could possibly be wrong with my car and how should I go about this?
- I replaced my engine in my car and white smoke comes out? I have a1997 honda civic ex and I had to replace the engine and it's blowing out white smoke from the exhaust
