Added (1). recently had heater hose bust. Had repaired, bled system. Barely started to overheat.

There can be many causes of that.

Two main suspects would be the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve which in this case may have gummed-up and got stuck in the open position, a leak in the inlet manifold (US= inlet header), an air leak in the brake servo (US= brake booster), and maybe the spark plugs are worn out or need their gaps adjusted.

This is NOT an exhaustive list. But any good repair shop should be able to easily identify the cause (or causes) of the fault as it's not intermittent

Get the EGR passages cleaned and the EGR valve inspected.
Have you been adjusting your valves every 60,000 miles? All Honda motor have a common problem with tight valves which need to be adjusted every 60,000 miles.
