99 Honda Prelude crankshaft bult extremely hard to get off. Any suggestions?

I have a 99 Honda prelude and believe my crankshaft position sensor went out and so I'm trying to change it out, but in order to do that I have to first remove the crankshaft pulley which is held on by a single bult. I've soaked it in PB blaster for over a week, can't get it off with a breaker bar, a cordless impact, just all around pure strength. And it does supposed to twist counterclockwise to remove. I'm stuck at this point. Any suggestions?

NO.

A cordless impact wrench can't do it.

How To Remove Honda Crank Bolts

I broke a 3/8" drive breaker bar recently. So I had to switch to a 1/2" drive breaker bar. Use a six-sided socket and not a 12 point socket to be careful not to strip the nut. Those two items should cost $20-$25. If you don't have any pipe around the house, buy a piece at the hardware store. When you add two or three feet of pipe to the breaker bar for increased leverage, you should be able to get anything. So instead of an 18" breaker bar, you are now using three feet, and it should remove anything.

I've spent the last week removing big, rusted bolts that are torqued down to 100 pounds. They are on the brake calipers. The bolts move eventually. I couldn't do it without pipe added to a 1/2 breaker bar.

I couldn't say how the pulley bolt is threaded. I have one to remove next month so I'm glad that you brought it up. I bought a special tool to help take the pulley off and also bolt it back on. This is what I bought. It is for a Chevy van. You may need a special pulley tool. I've never used one, but saw it used on YouTube so I know that I needed it.

GM power steering pulley is selected. You should select Honda Crankshaft or whatever… Read the reviews. They will help. I will have to shorten the bolt they sent to fit my vehicle. You may need two of those tools. Good luck.

Try a torch. And an extension pipe on the breaker bar

Counter clockwise to remove it. I've always had to heat the bolt head with an oxyacetylene torch to let the heat soak through the bolt to loosen the Loctite on the bolt threads Then use my 1/2" impact wrench with 120 pounds of air pressure. Works every time.

  • Is it hard to do an oil change on a 1992 honda prelude automatic transmission? So i have an automatic 92 honda prelude. Its a 2.2l engine non vtech, and I've been wondering if i should do an oil change on the tranny. Main questions i have are, is it hard? Would i need to change the filter? Or simply just drain out the oil and add new oil in? Any help will be well appreciated. I want to do this on my own i don't want to spend over 100 dollars at an auto shop lol.
