97 Honda Accord worth buying?
Has 200k has some misfire codes that's why check engine light is on but was driving good shifting strong!
I'll have the vin later
It also may have the bad air bags in it - Keep looking…
Dealer only wants $650
It has been driven to death. I wouldn't have it.
An important question is how long ago the timing belt was changed. It is due every 7 years or 90K miles, and costs about $800 for a full job with water pump. At 200K miles I would bet it is overdue for the second change, and timing belt failure will make the car not worth repair.
If by some fluke there's written record of the timing belt replacement (many people sell the car rather than pay for it) $100 or so will get you a pre-purchase inspection at your regular mechanic. It can save you thousands, especially since bad head gaskets are common in Hondas of that age because of cooling system neglect.
Shop around. Import shop near my house quoted me $450 on my 1996 Accord EX. By the way, the VTEC engine in the EX has two timing belts. What did the diagnostic say?
- Is it worth buying an older car with original miles? I'm looking at this 98 Honda Prelude Sh that has 20k original miles. They're asking 14 grand for this car which normally would turn me away. But I see similar preludes around my area that sell for about 5-6 grand with "reasonable" miles. (140k-170k). Now I'm having second thoughts, any suggestions? No doubt I'm in love with this prelude, but 14 grand is gut wrenching.
- Is buying a used Toyota, Honda or Mazda car over 100,500 mileage worth it? Or is it too risky? I don't want to buy a car that will die as soon as I get it. I want it too last a while.
- Is a $20,000 Honda S2000 07 worth buying? This man I know is selling his Honda s2000 year 2007 for 20 grand. Is it worth buying? Everything's in good condition
- Is it worth buying a used Chevy Volt with over 100K miles on it? The price is right, but is it worth it? I know I would have to install a power charging station which is an additional 1000 dollars. There's one for sale at 14,500 dollars… But most used Volts are around 23,000 dollars. My other two considerations are a new 2015 Honda Fit or a used Mark 6 VW Golf TDI I've seen people on youtube who average 120 mpg with the volt! One guy's was even 1000 mpg, I don't think he even brought it to the gas station since he bought the car!
