Car jerks when accelerating?

I have a 1994 automatic Honda Accord Lx that has been having car troubles lately. It runs good but it jerks sometimes while driving. Before there would be times where as I was stepping on the gas while driving it would suddenly gave trouble accelerating but it would go away and do it again another day. Today as I was driving it it would begin to jerk and hesitate to accelerate when starting from the stoplight. The check engine has also turned on and it hasn't turned off. Before it would come on but go away soon.

You need to have the car inspected by a mechanic. The Check Engine light can be caused for a number of reasons and the mechanic can use his OBD scanner to determine the code and the cause of the light. He can also give you an estimate as to what the cost would be to fix it. This is NOT something you are going to be able to fix yourself -- unless you are a mechanic.

Most autoparts stores can read the code from your computer. If it is a simple repair you may be able to do it yourself, but often the codes can lead you down the wrong path if you aren't experienced.

So let me get this straight. You have a CEL lit but you just keep driving and wonder why the motor isn't working right? How about going to a mechanic and getting your vehicle repaired?! I'll bet you have never had the valves adjusted. Honda's have a common problem with tight valve and they need to be adjusted every 60,000 miles. When were the spark plugs last replaced? You need to use NGK or Denso brand spark plugs in Asian made vehicles. Do the plug wires too.
