Does this mechanic bill look dishonest?
This is not my car. The car is a 1999 honda accord lx with 81,500 miles in good overall shape/strong engine. The shop replaced the ignition switch stating poor contacts inside the switch (the car never had any ignition problems) and the guy said told my mom the car could switch into neutral while driving if the switch was bump a certain way. The shop also replaced the oxygen sensor (the old one was previously checked and no codes were found, there was also continuity in the wiring and the engine light was not on. The shop added 3 quarts of new oil (there had been no signs of blue smoke or any oil loss plus it's a good running car and had an oil change 4250 miles ago with 4 quarts of oil added.
The cars problem when is went into the shop was it ran jogging speed without any gas and it made an odd sound which did not sound engine related. The only light on was the matenance light (the engine light was not on) . After the "repair" the noise is gone but the other problems still existed and the matenance light is still on.
heres the bill (roughly)
hourly rate - $100.00
replaced parts -
o2 sensor - $180.00 (I'm assuming it's oem/honda)
ignition switch - $90.00
3 quarts oil added 5w-30 - $10.00
total - $280.00
labor
upstream o2 sensor replacement $54.00
ignition switch replacement - $100.00
oil refill?
rack and piñon replacement? - $100.00
total repair cost - $459.00?
They were dishonest, Unfortunately shops will take advantage of people that don't know cars, I take my car in for oil changes but know my car inside and out, So far 99% of them have told me I need about $500.00 worth of things doing, that was over 15,000 miles ago and the car still runs great. Maybe she can check with the Better Business Bureau and see if the shop had any negative reviews. I'm not sure about Angie's list but heard they have a good reputation for recommending good businesses in different areas.
You have been totally ripped off. I would go to the shop and tell them you are on your way to the small claims court and BBB if they don't fix this bill. By fix I mean you pay nothing since your original problem was not fixed. AND---I assume mom paid with credit card. ---Dispute the charge immediately with your credit card company.
Padded by at least $100.00. Rack and pinion replacement? That is steering component R&R, no parts listed. 3 hr. Job, and if they charge $180.00 for an o2 sensor, rack assy. Would run $600.00. 3 qts. Oil sounds like BS, too. Find Moms another shop, As soon as possible.
This bill is as PHONY as they come. First of all nobody can even BUY a re-manufactured rack and pinion part for $100.00. Go to rockauto.com, partstrain.com or autopartswarehouse.com. And price them!
You can't buy an original equipment Denso down-stream or up-stream oxygen sensor for $54.00
- What does the main fuse on a 95 honda eg look like? My car has no power at all and i have no blown fuse, i noticed two wires run from the positive battery terminal, one to the strter and another to a thing inside the box under the engine bay, now this wire is biler to a piece of metal and beside that another wire is bolted to another piece of metal which runs back to everything in the car, is this the main fuse?
- NYS Registering Motorcycle with no bill of sale? Recently bought a 1986 honda rebel off a guy who was moving. I have the title and he signed the title over to me. Now when i go to register it the DMV says i need a bill of sale. I have no way to get in contact with the guy who sold it to me. Is there anything I can do to get this registered?
- Mechanic said he rebuilt the engine, smoke coming out of engine, could it be the grease burning off? The mechanic said he rebuilt the engine to my 1974 Honda CB550 I bought from him. Said he rebuilt the engine and is in perfect running condition. He has many bikes lying around and seems as if he is a hobbyist for bikes. He told me that he basically greased up a lot of parts of the motor and it is burning the grease off. The next oil change I do should remove the excess grease.
- How to title a motorbike that has no title or bill of sale? I have a Honda CT70 that was purchased at an auction many years ago. I do not have a bill of sale and the bike was never titled because it was never street legal. I would like to restore it and get it titled to ride around town. Any help is appreciated. And I live in Wisconsin as well.
