I have a problem with the iginition key on my 1999 Honda Accord?

When turning the key in the ignition to start it up, it'll turn on but when it's released it will shut off the car. It stays on if you hold the key as well, then shuts off when it's released.

The car is getting on for 16 years old, I expect the ignition barrel is wearing out or maybe a little dry on oil.

Try putting some household oil (3in1 or similar) on the blade of your key before inserting it.

Yes, it's a problem.

It needs to be repaired.

Classic for the ignition switch. Your 1999 Accord was probably included on the great ignition switch recall but was never done. See the source, last item. Call your Honda dealer with your VIN number and see if you are eligible - free repairs are best.
