Is there any way I can get Honda to replace this part for free?

A few days ago my 99 Honda Accord stalled in the middle of traffic. It was a good thing I wasn't on the highway or I probably would've gotten in an accident. Anyway, I took it to a mechanic and he said the car's ignition switch was bad and needed to be replaced. He told me that Honda recalled that part in 2002, so I should take it to a dealer and have it done by them for free. I called a Honda dealer and the guy asked me for my VIN so I gave it to him and he said my car was definitely one that had the recalled part so I should bring it in. I brought the car and the mechanics checked everything else too. Then they called and said my particular car was made in a different country than the ones with the recalled part, so it wasn't a part of the recall. Even though it's the same year and model. Then they gave a list of $1,500 worth of other things wrong with the car. One of which was that they said I need 4 new tires, but that's a lie because I just had them all replaced last week. So should I call some other dealers and see what they say? I'm thinking of contacting their corporate office too. Shouldn't they replace this part for free?

Here is the Honda web page where you can input your vin number to see if it has outstanding recalls that need to be fixed.

They should be able to tell by the vin number where the car was made and if it is on the recall or not. If it's on the list then take it to a different dealer.

Try a different Honda dealer, see if you get the same answer. Sounds like they messed up when they looked up the VIN. The first digit tells you country of production.

List the $1,500 worth of "other things".

Certainly, you should be able to find a honda recall wesite which you can enter your vin to know for sure. Do call another honda dealership then speak to them. You should look for the honda support phone number then call, it might help, if not they can explain things.
