What causes high rolling resistance in a car?
My Infiniti FX35 seems to have high rolling resistance. By which I mean it loses speed and momentum very quickly as soon as you let off the throttle. Even when going downhill I find myself needing to press the accelerator or else the car loses momentum very quickly.
My brother's 2012 Honda Accord behaves in a very different fashion, as the second you let off the brake the car rolls at like 5-10 mph without even touching the gas. Once I'm up to speed I only need a very small application on the accelerator to maintain that speed. If anything I need to apply the brakes significantly more in that car as the speed can sometimes increase significantly on slight downhill slopes even without any input on the accelerator. The two cars behave very differently in this aspect.
What causes high rolling resistance?
Tranny is holding it back is one reason some tranny release when off throttle and let the car coast others tend to hold back the engine RPM - try flipping it into N and see if that doesn't make it roll better. - friction is the other reason tires, number of axles that are gear driven, wind friction, etc.
The FX35 is an AWD vehicle and yes the extra diffs cause it to drag a little. Have an Accord too that rolls good and gets incredible mileage.

- What causes Feathering in motorcycle tires? I have a Honda PCX 125 that the rear tire I have noticed has been starting to feather. I checked my tire pressure, it's at 40 PSI, which is where it's supposed to be. I don't feel any shimmies or hear anything out of the ordinary. I did take my bike to the dealer where I got it from and they said it could be my rear suspension. Could this be a factor in my tire wearing bad?
