Brake caliper pistons won't release?

I had to take my front wheel of my Honda Ruckus, and upon reassembling, I had to use a screwdriver to move the pads apart a little for it to go on the disk. Now each time I hit my brakes, the pistons come out just a little more, until they're all the way out and I can't move the Ruckus. Why aren't my positions releasing properly? Or at all?

I assume you checked to ensure that nothing is binding. I would try beading the system- that's the only thing that I can think of that may help.

You probably damaged the pistons or bores by prying on them with a screwdriver.

More than likely the pistons inside the calipers are beginning to stick because the water-logged brake fluid has never been changed.

It sounds like the calipers need to be dismantled and the pistons and bores cleaned and reassembled with new seals.

Calipers push pistons out when you apply the brake pedal, because the master piston gets pushed. When you release, the pressure should not be there, it returns by way of the compensating port inside the master.
When the pressure is not applied to a caliper, the seal encircling the piston will naturally try to return to its original shape.
This retracts the piston slightly to prevent drag of the pads against the rotor.
In the event, you have pressure behind the piston, but the pedal is released, it may be that you damaged the flexible hose that carries the fluid to the caliper.
stretching or hanging the calipers weight from it can be the cause.
If this is the case, you would have a little pressure trapped in the caliper and hose.
The other causes are:1) improper assembly/ calipers need rebuilt.
2) pedal not releasing
3) pushrod adjusted long. Some cars.
4) debris trapped between master piston
and its snap ring.
5) bent shake brace.
6) pedal linkage bound up
7) foreign fluid contamination.
8) Blocked compensating port caused
by unknown obstruction.
I have not heard of your model, but the only car with parking brake installed on the front wheel is is subaru that i ever saw, so that's all the info you need.
If your car is equipped with other systems that use the caliper like ABS or TRACTION CONTROL, elimination of causes can be begun at the caliper and tracing back with a set of bleeds to isolate where the pressure is held. If you can't prove parts are failed, don't replace them. Call AAA and take it to a brake shop, or your dealer.

  • Selling a financed car & release of liability? I'm selling a financed vehicle and we're doing a bill of sale and i will user the buyers cash to mail in to Honda for the pay off amount. The buyer will be taking the car until I get the title, but the car will already be paid off with a cashiers check from the buyer( i will be present with buyer when getting check) so my question is do i fill the release of liability when he takes the vehicle with bill of sale? Or when i get the title and send him the title?

  • Some kind of pressure release and fog came from my 2008 Honda Civic. What could it be? So my car wouldn't start this morning, mot even the power locks. AAA came out and said it looks to only be a dead battery but, with the car still running, there was a loud sound like a pressure being released and a fog came out from under the car. My wife said it smelled like freon from the air conditioner. What could that be?
