2001 honda civic flashing check engine light problems we?
I have a 2001 honda civic with high mileage. The check engine light was flashing for a few seconds then staying on and doing this randomly. We checked the code and it was a p0301 cylinder 1 misfire. We did spark plugs and coils and that did not fix the problem. I braught it to the mechanic who did some valve adjustments and fixed the timing belt because that was about to go. The check engine light stayed out for a little bit then started flashing randomly but wouldn't stay on just flash while I was driving about every two minutes. What could be causing this problem? The car drives normal and good.
Make sure you do have spark at #1 spark plug, replacement park is not always mean good part and while you're there: Recheck the plug's gap. So let's say the ignition system checked out good.
If the ignition system is good then swap the injector from #1 with one of the other three cylinder and see if the code (P0301) follow to that cylinder, then you have a defected injector. Make sure you check the wires/connection/ connector for the injector as well. Using the "Noid light" that you can buy at most auto part store to see if the injector driver (Signal from the PCM) is there. If not, the PCM need to be test out or replace.
Other than that I would do a compression test and a cylinder leak down test and see how "healthy" the mechanical aspect of the engine is. There are a few more tests. This may help: http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/honda/1.7L/how-to-test-misfire-codes-1

If the Check Engine Light is flashing at 1Hz (once per second) when this happens then it is declared as a "Catalyst Damaging Misfire" by OBD2 Protocol. Usually caused by a faulty Ignition part, but it would 'seem' that you have ruled that out with Plugs and Coils, you may yet need to revisit those parts though. On some Honda engines the Valve Stems can get quite varnished and fail to close fast enough. Sometimes running a Top Engine Cleaner solvent through the Intake can help. However, if this is occurring during moderate load with a slight tip-in of the throttle I would go back to thinking Ignition.
- Check engine light, open door light, and batterie light all came on and won't go off? 2000 Honda Odyssey I already had the altinator replaced it a month old. The batterie almost a year old. Would the belt need be changed or something else?
- Flashing check engine light on 02 Honda Oddyssey after Valvoline oil change? Got an oil change at Valvoline, and next day check engine light began flashing. Car was running flawlessly before oil change. They suggested a new fuel filter, as mine was pretty rough. I declined. Got error codes of random misfire, as well as cylinder 1,2,4,6 misfire. Scanner at auto zone listed EGR valve as suggested part. Could this possibly be that the fuel filter is bad or was put back on incorrectly?
- Honda Civic 2004 LX flashing engine light after thermostat change? I have a Civic that was overheating and I got the engine light checked out and was told to change my thermostat. I changed my thermostat and I refilled it with coolant and for some reason the engine light started blinking and it never went off?
