98 Honda civic motor swap?

Which motor would give the most horsepower that I could drop in a 98 Honda civic lx. If your a Honda hater don't answer with something stupid

Added (1). 105.456mi on car my goal is to turbo the new engine

You guys must not build Hondas first hand.

I'm currently building a 1989 CRX Si.

It came with a D16A6 (~106 Hp) 1.6L SOHC, the motor I put into it is a B16A (160 Hp) 1.6L DOHC VTEC. Sure, it was quick because it only weighs 2,000 lbs. Altogether. However, my friend had a 1998 200SX/Sentra with a SR20DET swap. I learned my car wasn't fast, needless to say.

Currently, I'm in the process of boosting it. Keep in mind things add up quickly and you should have at least 1 other car to commute while in the process of swapping or other extensive modifications. I'm having to go OBD1 using a chipped P28 ECU. ($75 for jumpers, $80 for ECU from a good friend)
OBD1 distributor ($100)
Change to a half sized radiator ($100)

T3/T4 hybrid turbo kit ($1,200)
Bigger fuel pump ($100)
Bigger injectors ($150)

And I'm sure I'm missing half of the stuff I've bought so far. A lot of these prices are from connections I have. Keep in mind, prices are usually double what I've paid. Long story short, you're going to drop a motor in there. For a few months, you'll have the time of your life. You'll soon realize that it isn't enough, though. Just be prepared to spend thousands to have a quick street Honda.

But, if you just want to swap a motor to have a decent amount of increase while remaining cost efficient, I'd go with the Integra LS motor. It is a 1.8L DOHC non VTEC. The swap is relatively inexpensive and pretty easy. All you will need is:
-LS motor
-B16 (short gears, fast acceleration, low top speed) B18 transmission (long gears, slower acceleration, higher top speed)
-B series motor mount kit
-LS or compatible B series axles
-B series shift linkage
-B series ECU

The downside of other suggestions-
K20/24 swaps are around $10,000 (all said and done)
B20 VTEC puts strain on a block that is not designed to revolve at the speeds the B16/GSR VTEC heads are. On top of the fact the B20 is a bored LS with thinner cylinder walls, adding turbo is a recipe for disaster.

Also, the K20A from the Integra Type R is rated stock at 250 hp. 20 above the 230.

I'm not a Honda hater, but is it wise to spend so much money on such an old car, even a Honda will die eventually. I mean getting an engine then the cost to install it, getting rid of the old engine etc…

A 98 is 16 years old, your transmission is 16, most of the suspension is 16, but you don't say how many miles on your Civic, that matters too.

Lmfao. K24Z7 but seriously. What are your intentions? All honda engines Stock are less then 230 Horse. You won't really pull any power by just swapping into something different.

"Best" would be up to you. I'd go with something like a B20 VTEC turbo set up. Which can be pieced together relatively cheap.
