First car! 2016 Volkswagen Jetta SE or 2016 Honda Civic LX?
Purchasing my first car soon and am stuck between the VW and Honda. The Jetta is a couple thousand dollars cheaper, but I read that Honda's are more reliable and will be less expensive to mantain. My dad will be paying the down payment of the car, but I will be paying the monthly payments, gas, and possibly(?) any repairs (we haven't actually discussed that part so I'm not sure). I do like the features on the Jetta SE more than the Civic LX, but I also want a car that will be safe to drive. I don't care much about speed or exterior appearance. Just want a nice car I can use for the next few years that won't break down on me. I'm 18 btw! Thoughts on this?
Hondas have been proven generally more reliable, to require fewer repairs and are cheaper to have maintained and repaired than Volkswagen (or any German car). Both VW and Honda will be good to drive, but the Honda will probably be better for the circumstances you describe.
Despite its roomy interior and grown-up looks, the Jetta sedan carries the lowest sticker price in the VW lineup.
Get this one instead. It's a steal.
The overall quality and reliability of the Honda Civic LX is far superior to that of the Jetta SE.
Civic, maybe even the hatchback.
The honda is more reliable and retains value better than the vw, and is usually rated highly in every test. Vw not so much
