Honda Civic 2003 for first car?

Okay so I have a few questions. As a backstory, i'm an 18 year old guy, live in the LA area, and i'm gonna be taking my driving test in a few weeks. The past few weeks i've been researching cars because I plan on purchasing my first car. My limit is $6,000. Anyway, i've been looking up local used cars on Autotrader and I found a few good looking deals.

There's one in particular that caught my eye. A 2003 Honda Civic for $5,500, and it's nearby. The only thing is that it has 131,000 miles on it, and i'm wondering if a car with that many miles is worth it for the price. I'm a bit of a car noob obviously, so I just wanted to get some opinions from people with experience. Is that mileage too high? I know Honda Civics are VERY reliable cars

Added (1). Also to add a few more details, it's the EX model.whatever that means. It's 4 speed automatic (which is good cause I have no idea how to drive stick.

Also wondering if Volkswagon Jettas are any good. I found a 2007 Jetta for $5,500 and it has 90,000 miles and looks very nice, but i've heard it costs alot for maintanence, so i'm leaning more toward the Civic

Honda engines are built to last. If fully and properly maintained they can very easily last 300k miles or more. 131k is not high at all if the Honda has been properly services throughout the years.

Very reliable car. Price seems a bit high, even for prestene condition. But 130k is nothing for those cars with proper maintainence. Before you buy, ask for maintenance records. A lot of people will carry them as it keeps cars value a bit higher. Ask if any wearing parts have already been replaced(spark plugs, cap and rotor, water pump, timing belt, etc.) with proper maintenance they'll run just about forever.

The Honda Civic for that year are very reliable but I believe that its a bit over priced for having 130k. Civics 2003 around me are going for 3000 and have around a little over 100k.

The average car is driven 12,000 miles per year. The car you found would be considered low mileage for a 13 year old model. What ever you decide on, have it inspected by a mechanic before you make the purchase to make sure there are no major problems pending. All older high mileage vehicles will have some minor issues.
